Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. 1O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Let the redeemed of the LORD proclaim that He has redeemed them from the hand of the foe 2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
and has gathered them from the lands-- from the east and the west, from the north and the south. 3And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
Some wandered in the desolate wilderness, finding no way to a city where they could live. 4They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
They were hungry and thirsty; their spirits failed within them. 5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He rescued them from their distress. 6Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
He led them by the right path to go to a city where they could live. 7And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity. 8Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
For He has satisfied the thirsty and filled the hungry with good things. 9For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
Others sat in darkness and gloom-- prisoners in cruel chains-- 10Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
because they rebelled against God's commands and despised the counsel of the Most High. 11Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
He broke their spirits with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. 12Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distress. 13Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
He brought them out of darkness and gloom and broke their chains apart. 14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity. 15Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
For He has broken down the bronze gates and cut through the iron bars. 16For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
Fools suffered affliction because of their rebellious ways and their sins. 17Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
They loathed all food and came near the gates of death. 18Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distress. 19Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
He sent His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit. 20He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity. 21Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and announce His works with shouts of joy. 22And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
Others went to sea in ships, conducting trade on the vast waters. 23They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
They saw the LORD's works, His wonderful works in the deep. 24These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
He spoke and raised a tempest that stirred up the waves of the sea. 25For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths, their courage melting away in anguish, 26They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
they reeled and staggered like drunken men, and all their skill was useless. 27They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. 28Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He stilled the storm to a murmur, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 29He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet. Then He guided them to the harbor they longed for. 30Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity. 31Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people and praise Him in the council of the elders. 32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
He turns rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, 33He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
and fruitful land into salty wasteland, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants. 34A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
He turns a desert into a pool of water, dry land into springs of water. 35He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
He causes the hungry to settle there, and they establish a city where they can live. 36And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
They sow fields and plant vineyards that yield a fruitful harvest. 37And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their livestock decrease. 38He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
When they are diminished and are humbled by cruel oppression and sorrow, 39Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
He pours contempt on nobles and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland. 40He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
But He lifts the needy out of their suffering and makes their families multiply like flocks. 41Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
The upright see it and rejoice, and all injustice shuts its mouth. 42The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
Let whoever is wise pay attention to these things and consider the LORD's acts of faithful love. 43Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
