Psalm 45
International Standard VersionBerean Study Bible
My heart is overflowing with good news; I speak what I have composed to the king; my tongue is like the pen of an articulate scribe.1For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lilies.” A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
You are the most handsome of Adam's descendants; grace has anointed your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever.2You are the most handsome of men; grace has anointed your lips, since God has blessed you forever.
Strap your sword to your side, mighty warrior, along with your honor and majesty.3Strap your sword at your side, O mighty warrior; appear in your majesty and splendor.
In your majesty ride forth for the cause of truth, humility, and righteousness; and your strong right hand will teach you awesome things.4In your splendor ride forth in victory on behalf of truth and humility and justice; may your right hand show your awesome deeds.
Your arrows are sharpened to penetrate the hearts of the king's enemies. People will fall under you.5Your arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s foes; the nations fall beneath your feet.
Your throne, God, exists forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a righteous scepter.6Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.
You love justice and hate wickedness. That is why God, even your God, has anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness.7You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you above your companions with the oil of joy.
All your clothes are scented with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad.8All your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces of ivory the harps make you glad.
The king's daughters are among your honorable women; the queen, dressed in gold from Ophir, has taken her place at your right hand."9The daughters of kings are among your honored women; the queen stands at your right hand, adorned with the gold of Ophir.
Listen, daughter! Consider and pay attention. Forget your people and your father's house,10Listen, O daughter! Consider and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father’s house,
and the king will greatly desire your beauty. Because he is your lord, you should bow in respect before him.11and the king will desire your beauty; bow to him, for he is your lord.
The daughter of Tyre will come with a wedding gift; wealthy people will entreat your favor.12The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.
In her chamber, the king's daughter is glorious; her clothing is embroidered with gold thread.13All glorious is the princess in her chamber; her gown is embroidered with gold.
In embroidered garments she is presented to the king. Her virgin companions who follow her train will be presented to you.14In colorful garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions are brought before you.
Filled with joy and gladness, they are presented when they enter the king's palace.15They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king.
Your sons will take the place of your ancestors, and you will set them up as princes in all the earth.16Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land.
From generation to generation, I will cause your name to be remembered. Therefore people will thank you forever and ever.17I will commemorate your name through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you forever and ever.
