Then the family leaders of the descendants of Levi approached Eleazar the priest and Nun's son Joshua, along with the family leaders of the people of Israel. 1The Levite family heads approached the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the family heads of the Israelite tribes.
It was at Shiloh in the land of Canaan that they told them, "The LORD ordered through Moses that we be given cities in which to live, along with their pasture lands for our livestock."2At Shiloh, in the land of Canaan, they told them, "The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to live in, with their pasturelands for our livestock."

The lottery went to the families of the descendants of Kohath. 9From the tribes of the descendants of Judah and Simeon, they gave these cities, delineated by name: 9The Israelites gave these cities by name from the tribes of the descendants of Judah and Simeon
for the descendants of Aaron, one of the families of the descendants of Kohath, of the descendants of Levi, since the lot fell in their favor first. 10to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because they received the first lot.
They gave them Kiriath-arba, also known as Hebron, (Arba was named after the ancestor of Anak), in the hill country of Judah, along with its surrounding pasture lands. 11They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron; Arba was the father of Anak) with its surrounding pasturelands in the hill country of Judah.
But the fields adjoining the city and its surrounding villages were given to Jephunneh's son Caleb.12But they gave the fields and settlements of the city to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.

These cities were each surrounded by pasture lands, as was the case with all of these cities. 42Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities.
So the LORD gave all of the land to Israel that he had promised to give their ancestors, and they took possession and settled there in it. 43So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.
The LORD gave them peace all around them, just as he had promised their ancestors. Not one of their enemies was able to oppose them—the LORD placed all of their enemies under their control. 44The LORD gave them rest on every side according to all he had sworn to their fathers. None of their enemies were able to stand against them, for the LORD handed over all their enemies to them.
Not one of the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed—all of them came about. 45None of the good promises the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed. Everything was fulfilled.
