Sing joyfully to God, our strength. Raise a shout to the God of Jacob.1For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.
Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant-sounding lyre along with the harp.2Raise a song, strike the timbrel, The sweet sounding lyre with the harp.
Blow the ram's horn when there is a New Moon, when there is a full moon, on our festival day,3Blow the trumpet at the new moon, At the full moon, on our feast day.
because it is a statute in Israel, an ordinance by the God of Jacob,4For it is a statute for Israel, An ordinance of the God of Jacob.
a decree that he prescribed for Joseph when he went throughout the land of Egypt, speaking a language I did not recognize. 5He established it for a testimony in Joseph When he went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not know:
I removed the burden from your shoulder; your hands were freed of the burdensome basket. 6"I relieved his shoulder of the burden, His hands were freed from the basket.
In a time of need you called out and I delivered you; I answered you from the dark thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Interlude7"You called in trouble and I rescued you; I answered you in the hiding place of thunder; I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
Listen, My people and I will warn you. Israel, if only you would obey me!8"Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me!
You must neither have a foreign god over you or worship a strange god.9"Let there be no strange god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, open your mouth that I may fill it.10"I, the LORD, am your God, Who brought you up from the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.
Yet my people didn't obey my voice; Israel didn't submit to me.11"But My people did not listen to My voice, And Israel did not obey Me.
So I allowed them to continue in their stubbornness, living by their own advice.12"So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, To walk in their own devices.
If only my people would obey me, if only Israel would walk in my ways!13"Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!
Then I would quickly subdue their enemies. I would turn against their foes.14"I would quickly subdue their enemies And turn My hand against their adversaries.
Those who hate the LORD will cringe before him; their punishment will be permanent.15"Those who hate the LORD would pretend obedience to Him, And their time of punishment would be forever.
But I will feed Israel with the finest wheat, satisfying you with honey from the rock.16"But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."
