| 1And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. | 1As Jesus left and was going out of the temple complex, His disciples came up and called His attention to the temple buildings. |
| 2And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. | 2Then He replied to them, "Don't you see all these things? I assure you: Not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down!" |
| 3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? | 3While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached Him privately and said, "Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?" |
| 4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. | 4Then Jesus replied to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. |
| 5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. | 5For many will come in My name, saying, I am the Messiah,' and they will deceive many. |
| 6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. | 6You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet. |
| 7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. | 7For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. |
| 8All these are the beginning of sorrows. | 8All these events are the beginning of birth pains. |
| 9Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. | 9"Then they will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name. |
| 10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. | 10Then many will take offense, betray one another and hate one another. |
| 11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. | 11Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. |
| 12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. | 12Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. |
| 13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. | 13But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. |
| 14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. | 14This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations. And then the end will come. |
| 15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) | 15"So when you see the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place" (let the reader understand), |
| 16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: | 16"then those in Judea must flee to the mountains! |
| 17Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: | 17A man on the housetop must not come down to get things out of his house. |
| 18Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. | 18And a man in the field must not go back to get his clothes. |
| 19And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! | 19Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days! |
| 20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: | 20Pray that your escape may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. |
| 21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. | 21For at that time there will be great tribulation, the kind that hasn't taken place from the beginning of the world until now and never will again! |
| 22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. | 22Unless those days were limited, no one would survive. But those days will be limited because of the elect. |
| 23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. | 23"If anyone tells you then, Look, here is the Messiah!' or, Over here!' do not believe it! |
| 24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. | 24False messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. |
| 25Behold, I have told you before. | 25Take note: I have told you in advance. |
| 26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. | 26So if they tell you, Look, He's in the wilderness!' don't go out; Look, He's in the inner rooms!' do not believe it. |
| 27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. | 27For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. |
| 28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. | 28Wherever the carcass is, there the vultures will gather. |
| 29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: | 29"Immediately after the tribulation of those days: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the celestial powers will be shaken. |
| 30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. | 30"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. |
| 31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. | 31He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other. |
| 32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: | 32"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. |
| 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. | 33In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near--at the door! |
| 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. | 34I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place. |
| 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. | 35Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. |
| 36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. | 36"Now concerning that day and hour no one knows--neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son--except the Father only. |
| 37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. | 37As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. |
| 38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, | 38For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark. |
| 39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. | 39They didn't know until the flood came and swept them all away. So this is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be: |
| 40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. | 40Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one left. |
| 41Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. | 41Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one left. |
| 42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. | 42Therefore be alert, since you don't know what day your Lord is coming. |
| 43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. | 43But know this: If the homeowner had known what time the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into. |
| 44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. | 44This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. |
| 45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? | 45"Who then is a faithful and sensible slave, whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time? |
| 46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. | 46That slave whose master finds him working when he comes will be rewarded. |
| 47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. | 47I assure you: He will put him in charge of all his possessions. |
| 48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; | 48But if that wicked slave says in his heart, My master is delayed,' |
| 49And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; | 49and starts to beat his fellow slaves, and eats and drinks with drunkards, |
| 50The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, | 50that slave's master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. |
| 51And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. | 51He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. |
