Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.1Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time for prayer, at three o'clock in the afternoon.
And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;2And a man lame from birth was being carried up, who was placed at the temple gate called "the Beautiful Gate" every day so he could beg for money from those going into the temple courts.
Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.3When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple courts, he asked them for money.
And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.4Peter looked directly at him (as did John) and said, "Look at us!"
And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.5So the lame man paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.6But Peter said, "I have no silver or gold, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, stand up and walk!"
And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.7Then Peter took hold of him by the right hand and raised him up, and at once the man's feet and ankles were made strong.
And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.8He jumped up, stood and began walking around, and he entered the temple courts with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
And all the people saw him walking and praising God:9All the people saw him walking and praising God,
And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.10and they recognized him as the man who used to sit and ask for donations at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with astonishment and amazement at what had happened to him.
And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.11While the man was hanging on to Peter and John, all the people, completely astounded, ran together to them in the covered walkway called Solomon's Portico.
And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?12When Peter saw this, he declared to the people, "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? Why do you stare at us as if we had made this man walk by our own power or piety?
The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our forefathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate after he had decided to release him.
But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;14But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a man who was a murderer be released to you.
And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.15You killed the Originator of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this fact we are witnesses!
And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.16And on the basis of faith in Jesus' name, his very name has made this man--whom you see and know--strong. The faith that is through Jesus has given him this complete health in the presence of you all.
And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.17And now, brothers, I know you acted in ignorance, as your rulers did too.
But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.18But the things God foretold long ago through all the prophets--that his Christ would suffer--he has fulfilled in this way.
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;19Therefore repent and turn back so that your sins may be wiped out,
And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:20so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and so that he may send the Messiah appointed for you--that is, Jesus.
Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.21This one heaven must receive until the time all things are restored, which God declared from times long ago through his holy prophets.
For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.22Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must obey him in everything he tells you.
And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.23Every person who does not obey that prophet will be destroyed and thus removed from the people.'
Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.24And all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed him, have spoken about and announced these days.
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.25You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, 'And in your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.'
Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.26God raised up his servant and sent him first to you, to bless you by turning each one of you from your iniquities."
