It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife.1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles--a man is sleeping with his father's wife.
You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.2And you are arrogant! Shouldn't you be filled with grief and remove from your congregation the one who did this?
For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present.3Even though I am absent in the body, I am present in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who has been doing such a thing.
In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus, and I am with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.5hand that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?6Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little leaven leavens the whole batch of dough?
Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.7Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new unleavened batch, as indeed you are. For Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed.
Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.8Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old leaven or with the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people;9I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world.10I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world.
But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler-- not even to eat with such a one.11But actually, I wrote you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.
For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?12For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside?
But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.13God judges outsiders. Remove the evil person from among you.
