but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
"And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'7And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.
"Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts,9Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts,
or a bag for your journey, or even two coats, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support.10no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food.
"And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city.11And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart.
"As you enter the house, give it your greeting.12As you enter the house, greet it.
"If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace.13And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
"Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.14And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town.
"Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.15Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.
"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.16“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
"But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues;17Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues,
and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.18and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.
"But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say.19When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.
"For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.20For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.21Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death,
"You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.22and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
"But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.23When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
"A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master.24“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
"It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!25It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.
"Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.26“So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
"What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.27What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.30But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
"So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.31Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.32So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,
"But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.33but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.34“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
"For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;35For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.36And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.
"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.37Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.38And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
"He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
"He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.40“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.
"He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.41The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.
"And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."42And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
