NASB Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
"You are the sons of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave your forehead for the sake of the dead.1You are sons of the LORD your God; do not cut yourselves or make a bald spot on your head on behalf of the dead,
"For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.2for you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. The LORD has chosen you to be His own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth."
"You shall not eat any detestable thing.3You must not eat any detestable thing.
"These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,4These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,
the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep.5the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.
"Any animal that divides the hoof and has the hoof split in two and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.6You may eat any animal that has hooves divided in two and chews the cud.
"Nevertheless, you are not to eat of these among those which chew the cud, or among those that divide the hoof in two: the camel and the rabbit and the shaphan, for though they chew the cud, they do not divide the hoof; they are unclean for you.7But among the ones that chew the cud or have divided hooves, you are not to eat these: the camel, the hare, and the hyrax, though they chew the cud, they do not have hooves-- they are unclean for you;
"The pig, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, it is unclean for you. You shall not eat any of their flesh nor touch their carcasses.8and the pig, though it has hooves, it does not chew the cud-- it is unclean for you. You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses."
"These you may eat of all that are in water: anything that has fins and scales you may eat,9You may eat everything from the water that has fins and scales,
but anything that does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.10but you may not eat anything that does not have fins and scales--it is unclean for you."
"You may eat any clean bird.11You may eat every clean bird,
"But these are the ones which you shall not eat: the eagle and the vulture and the buzzard,12but these are the ones you may not eat: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,
and the red kite, the falcon, and the kite in their kinds,13the kite, any kind of falcon,
and every raven in its kind,14every kind of raven,
and the ostrich, the owl, the sea gull, and the hawk in their kinds,15the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the gull, any kind of hawk,
the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,16the little owl, the long-eared owl, the white owl,
the pelican, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,17the desert owl, the osprey, the cormorant,
the stork, and the heron in their kinds, and the hoopoe and the bat.18the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe, and the bat.
"And all the teeming life with wings are unclean to you; they shall not be eaten.19All winged insects are unclean for you; they may not be eaten.
"You may eat any clean bird.20But you may eat every clean flying creature."
"You shall not eat anything which dies of itself. You may give it to the alien who is in your town, so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.21You are not to eat any carcass; you may give it to a temporary resident living within your gates, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. You must not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."
"You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes out of the field every year.22Each year you are to set aside a tenth of all the produce grown in your fields.
"You shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God, at the place where He chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.23You are to eat a tenth of your grain, new wine, and oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, in the presence of Yahweh your God at the place where He chooses to have His name dwell, so that you will always learn to fear the LORD your God.
"If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe, since the place where the LORD your God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the LORD your God blesses you,24But if the distance is too great for you to carry it, since the place where Yahweh your God chooses to put His name is too far away from you and since the LORD your God has blessed you,
then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses.25then exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place the LORD your God chooses.
"You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household.26You may spend the money on anything you want: cattle, sheep, wine, beer, or anything you desire. You are to feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice with your family.
"Also you shall not neglect the Levite who is in your town, for he has no portion or inheritance among you.27Do not neglect the Levite within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you."
"At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year, and shall deposit it in your town.28At the end of every three years, bring a tenth of all your produce for that year and store it within your gates.
"The Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance among you, and the alien, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied, in order that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.29Then the Levite, who has no portion or inheritance among you, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates may come, eat, and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will bless you in all the work of your hands that you do."
