New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.1So the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.
"You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.2You are to speak everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh that he must release the Israelites from his land.
"But I will harden Pharaoh's heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.3But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and although I will multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt,
"When Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments.4Pharaoh will not listen to you. I will reach into Egypt and bring out my regiments, my people the Israelites, from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.
"The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst."5Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I extend my hand over Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them.
So Moses and Aaron did it; as the LORD commanded them, thus they did.6And Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the LORD commanded them.
Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.7Now Moses was eighty years old and Aaron was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,8The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,
"When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, 'Work a miracle,' then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.'"9"When Pharaoh says to you, 'Do a miracle,' and you say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,' it will become a snake."
So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and thus they did just as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.10When Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh, they did so, just as the LORD had commanded them--Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants and it became a snake.
Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts.11Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the magicians of Egypt by their secret arts did the same thing.
For each one threw down his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.12Each man threw down his staff, and the staffs became snakes. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.
Yet Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.13Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had predicted.
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.14The LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is hard; he refuses to release the people.
"Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he is going out to the water, and station yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand the staff that was turned into a serpent.15Go to Pharaoh in the morning when he goes out to the water. Position yourself to meet him by the edge of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was turned into a snake.
"You shall say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, "Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listened until now."16Tell him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you to say, "Release my people, that they may serve me in the desert!" But until now you have not listened.
'Thus says the LORD, "By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned to blood.17Thus says the LORD: "By this you will know that I am the LORD: I am going to strike the water of the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned into blood.
"The fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will become foul, and the Egyptians will find difficulty in drinking water from the Nile."'"18Fish in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink water from the Nile."'"
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, that they may become blood; and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.'"19Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over Egypt's waters--over their rivers, over their canals, over their ponds, and over all their reservoirs--so that it becomes blood.' There will be blood everywhere in the land of Egypt, even in wooden and stone containers."
So Moses and Aaron did even as the LORD had commanded. And he lifted up the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.20Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD had commanded. Moses raised the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile right before the eyes of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.
The fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt.21When the fish that were in the Nile died, the Nile began to stink, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood everywhere in the land of Egypt!
But the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.22But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts, and so Pharaoh's heart remained hard, and he refused to listen to Moses and Aaron--just as the LORD had predicted.
Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house with no concern even for this.23And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. He did not pay any attention to this.
So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile.24All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the Nile.
Seven days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile.25Seven full days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.
