New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.1For the music director; a psalm of David. Listen to me, O God, as I offer my lament! Protect my life from the enemy's terrifying attacks.
Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, From the tumult of those who do iniquity,2Hide me from the plots of evil men, from the crowd of evildoers.
Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrow,3They sharpen their tongues like a sword; they aim their arrow, a slanderous charge,
To shoot from concealment at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.4in order to shoot down the innocent in secluded places. They shoot at him suddenly and are unafraid of retaliation.
They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, "Who can see them?"5They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. They plan how to hide snares, and boast, "Who will see them?"
They devise injustices, saying, "We are ready with a well-conceived plot"; For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep.6They devise unjust schemes; they disguise a well-conceived plot. Man's inner thoughts cannot be discovered.
But God will shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they will be wounded.7But God will shoot at them; suddenly they will be wounded by an arrow.
So they will make him stumble; Their own tongue is against them; All who see them will shake the head.8Their slander will bring about their demise. All who see them will shudder,
Then all men will fear, And they will declare the work of God, And will consider what He has done.9and all people will fear. They will proclaim what God has done, and reflect on his deeds.
The righteous man will be glad in the LORD and will take refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory.10The godly will rejoice in the LORD and take shelter in him. All the morally upright will boast.
