| 1Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. | 1Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. |
| 2Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. | 2Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. |
| 3For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. | 3If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. |
| 4But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. | 4Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. |

| 12Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. | 12Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to look good to others. They don’t want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save. |
| 13For those who are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh. | 13And even those who advocate circumcision don’t keep the whole law themselves. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their disciples. |
| 14But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. | 14As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died. |
| 15For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. | 15It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation. |
| 16And those who will walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. | 16May God’s peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle; they are the new people of God. |
| 17From now on let no one cause trouble for me, for I bear on my body the brand-marks of Jesus. | 17From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus. |
