A song of ascents. O LORD, for David's sake remember all his strenuous effort, 1LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured,
and how he made a vow to the LORD, and swore an oath to the powerful ruler of Jacob. 2and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
He said, "I will not enter my own home, or get into my bed. 3"I will not enter my house or get into my bed,
I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber, 4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber
until I find a place for the LORD, a fine dwelling place for the powerful ruler of Jacob." 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."
Look, we heard about it in Ephrathah, we found it in the territory of Jaar. 6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.
Let us go to his dwelling place! Let us worship before his footstool! 7Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.
Ascend, O LORD, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength! 8Rise up, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your powerful ark.
May your priests be clothed with integrity! May your loyal followers shout for joy! 9May your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may your faithful people shout for joy.
For the sake of David, your servant, do not reject your chosen king! 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.
The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, "I will place one of your descendants on your throne. 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon: "I will set one of your offspring on your throne.
If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." 12If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever."
Certainly the LORD has chosen Zion; he decided to make it his home. 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home:
He said, "This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it. 14"This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it.
I will abundantly supply what she needs; I will give her poor all the food they need. 15I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread.
I will protect her priests, and her godly people will shout exuberantly. 16I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy.
There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king's dynasty will continue. 17There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one.
I will humiliate his enemies, and his crown will shine. 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious."
