Psalm 132
NET BibleNew Living Translation
A song of ascents. O LORD, for David's sake remember all his strenuous effort, 1LORD, remember David and all that he suffered.
and how he made a vow to the LORD, and swore an oath to the powerful ruler of Jacob. 2He made a solemn promise to the LORD. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel,
He said, "I will not enter my own home, or get into my bed. 3“I will not go home; I will not let myself rest.
I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber, 4I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber
until I find a place for the LORD, a fine dwelling place for the powerful ruler of Jacob." 5until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”
Look, we heard about it in Ephrathah, we found it in the territory of Jaar. 6We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar.
Let us go to his dwelling place! Let us worship before his footstool! 7Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD; let us worship at the footstool of his throne.
Ascend, O LORD, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength! 8Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power.
May your priests be clothed with integrity! May your loyal followers shout for joy! 9May your priests be clothed in godliness; may your loyal servants sing for joy.
For the sake of David, your servant, do not reject your chosen king! 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you have anointed.
The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, "I will place one of your descendants on your throne. 11The LORD swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne.
If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." 12If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.”
Certainly the LORD has chosen Zion; he decided to make it his home. 13For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem ; he has desired it for his home.
He said, "This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it. 14“This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired.
I will abundantly supply what she needs; I will give her poor all the food they need. 15I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food.
I will protect her priests, and her godly people will shout exuberantly. 16I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy.
There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king's dynasty will continue. 17Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people.
I will humiliate his enemies, and his crown will shine. 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.”
