A song of ascents. O LORD, for David's sake remember all his strenuous effort, 1A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction;
and how he made a vow to the LORD, and swore an oath to the powerful ruler of Jacob. 2How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
He said, "I will not enter my own home, or get into my bed. 3"Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed;
I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber, 4I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids,
until I find a place for the LORD, a fine dwelling place for the powerful ruler of Jacob." 5Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."
Look, we heard about it in Ephrathah, we found it in the territory of Jaar. 6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar.
Let us go to his dwelling place! Let us worship before his footstool! 7Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool.
Ascend, O LORD, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength! 8Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
May your priests be clothed with integrity! May your loyal followers shout for joy! 9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy.
For the sake of David, your servant, do not reject your chosen king! 10For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed.
The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, "I will place one of your descendants on your throne. 11The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: "Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne.
If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." 12"If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever."
Certainly the LORD has chosen Zion; he decided to make it his home. 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.
He said, "This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it. 14"This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
I will abundantly supply what she needs; I will give her poor all the food they need. 15"I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.
I will protect her priests, and her godly people will shout exuberantly. 16"Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king's dynasty will continue. 17"There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed.
I will humiliate his enemies, and his crown will shine. 18"His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine."
