Psalm 81
NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
For the music director; according to the gittith style; by Asaph. Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob! 1Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob!
Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument! 2Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp.
Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. 3Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.
For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. 4For it is a statute for Israel, a rule of the God of Jacob.
He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. 5He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known:
It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. 6“I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.
In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (Selah) 7In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! 8Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god. 9There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!' 10I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. 11“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me.
I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. 12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.
If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! 13Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!
Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries." 14I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes.
(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) 15Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever.
"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs." 16But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
