| 2Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument! | 2Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre. |
| 3Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. | 3Sound the ram's horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival; |
| 4For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. | 4this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. |
| 5He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. | 5When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say: |
| 6It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. | 6"I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. |

| 11But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. | 11"But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. |
| 12I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. | 12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. |
| 13If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! | 13"If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways, |
| 14Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries." | 14how quickly I would subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes! |
| 15(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) | 15Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever. |
| 16"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs." | 16But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you." |
