So the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.1The LORD answered Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet.
You are to speak everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh that he must release the Israelites from his land.2You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land.
But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and although I will multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt,3But I will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.
Pharaoh will not listen to you. I will reach into Egypt and bring out my regiments, my people the Israelites, from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.4Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put My hand on Egypt and bring the divisions of My people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.
Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I extend my hand over Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them. 5The Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out My hand against Egypt, and bring out the Israelites from among them."
And Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the LORD commanded them.6So Moses and Aaron did this; they did just as the LORD commanded them.
Now Moses was eighty years old and Aaron was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh. 7Moses was 80 years old and Aaron 83 when they spoke to Pharaoh.
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,8The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "
"When Pharaoh says to you, 'Do a miracle,' and you say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,' it will become a snake."9When Pharaoh tells you, 'Perform a miracle,' tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh. It will become a serpent.'"
When Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh, they did so, just as the LORD had commanded them--Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants and it became a snake.10So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent.
Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the magicians of Egypt by their secret arts did the same thing.11But then Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers--the magicians of Egypt, and they also did the same thing by their occult practices.
Each man threw down his staff, and the staffs became snakes. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.12Each one threw down his staff, and it became a serpent. But Aaron's staff swallowed their staffs.
Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had predicted. 13However, Pharaoh's heart hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
The LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is hard; he refuses to release the people.14Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is hard: he refuses to let the people go.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning when he goes out to the water. Position yourself to meet him by the edge of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was turned into a snake.15Go to Pharaoh in the morning. When you see him walking out to the water, stand ready to meet him by the bank of the Nile. Take in your hand the staff that turned into a snake.
Tell him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you to say, "Release my people, that they may serve me in the desert!" But until now you have not listened.16Tell him: Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to tell you: Let My people go, so that they may worship Me in the wilderness, but so far you have not listened.
Thus says the LORD: "By this you will know that I am the LORD: I am going to strike the water of the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned into blood.17This is what Yahweh says: Here is how you will know that I am Yahweh. Watch. I will strike the water in the Nile with the staff in my hand, and it will turn to blood.
Fish in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink water from the Nile."'"18The fish in the Nile will die, the river will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink water from it."
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over Egypt's waters--over their rivers, over their canals, over their ponds, and over all their reservoirs--so that it becomes blood.' There will be blood everywhere in the land of Egypt, even in wooden and stone containers."19So the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt--over their rivers, canals, ponds, and all their water reservoirs--and they will become blood. There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in wooden and stone containers."
Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD had commanded. Moses raised the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile right before the eyes of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.20Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded; in the sight of Pharaoh and his officials, he raised the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile was turned to blood.
When the fish that were in the Nile died, the Nile began to stink, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood everywhere in the land of Egypt!21The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad the Egyptians could not drink water from it. There was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts, and so Pharaoh's heart remained hard, and he refused to listen to Moses and Aaron--just as the LORD had predicted.22But the magicians of Egypt did the same thing by their occult practices. So Pharaoh's heart hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. He did not pay any attention to this.23Pharaoh turned around, went into his palace, and didn't even take this to heart.
All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the Nile. 24All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink because they could not drink the water from the river.
Seven full days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.25Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.
