Psalm 139
NET Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
For the music director, a psalm of David. O LORD, you examine me and know. 1LORD, you have examined me; you have known me.
You know when I sit down and when I get up; even from far away you understand my motives. 2You know when I rest and when I am active. You understand what I am thinking when I am distant from you.
You carefully observe me when I travel or when I lie down to rest; you are aware of everything I do. 3You scrutinize my life and my rest; you are familiar with all of my ways.
Certainly my tongue does not frame a word without you, O LORD, being thoroughly aware of it. 4Even before I have formed a word with my tongue, you, LORD, know it completely!
You squeeze me in from behind and in front; you place your hand on me. 5You encircle me from back to front, placing your hand upon me.
Your knowledge is beyond my comprehension; it is so far beyond me, I am unable to fathom it. 6Knowledge like this is too amazing for me. It is beyond my reach, and I cannot fathom it.
Where can I go to escape your spirit? Where can I flee to escape your presence? 7Where can I flee from your spirit? Or where will I run from your presence?
If I were to ascend to heaven, you would be there. If I were to sprawl out in Sheol, there you would be. 8If I rise to heaven, there you are! If I lay down with the dead, there you are!
If I were to fly away on the wings of the dawn, and settle down on the other side of the sea, 9If I take wings with the dawn and settle down on the western horizon
even there your hand would guide me, your right hand would grab hold of me. 10your hand will guide me there, too, while your right hand keeps a firm grip on me.
If I were to say, "Certainly the darkness will cover me, and the light will turn to night all around me," 11If I say, "Darkness will surely conceal me, and the light around me will become night,"
even the darkness is not too dark for you to see, and the night is as bright as day; darkness and light are the same to you. 12even darkness isn't dark to you, darkness and light are the same to you.
Certainly you made my mind and heart; you wove me together in my mother's womb. 13It was you who formed my internal organs, fashioning me within my mother's womb.
I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly; 14I praise you, because you are fearful and wondrous! Your work is wonderful, and I am fully aware of it.
my bones were not hidden from you, when I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth. 15My frame was not hidden from you while I was being crafted in a hidden place, knit together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw me when I was inside the womb. All the days ordained for me were recorded in your scroll before one of them came into existence. 16Your eyes looked upon my embryo, and everything was recorded in your book. The days scheduled for my formation were inscribed, even though not one of them had come yet.
How difficult it is for me to fathom your thoughts about me, O God! How vast is their sum total! 17How deep are your thoughts, God! How great is their number!
If I tried to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. Even if I finished counting them, I would still have to contend with you. 18Were I to count them, they would number more than the sand. When I awake, I will be with you.
If only you would kill the wicked, O God! Get away from me, you violent men! 19God, if only you would execute the wicked, so that the men guilty of bloodshed would get away from me,
They rebel against you and act deceitfully; your enemies lie. 20who speak against you with evil motives, your enemies who are acting in vain.
O LORD, do I not hate those who hate you, and despise those who oppose you? 21I hate those who hate you, LORD, do I not? I loathe those who rebel against you, do I not ?
I absolutely hate them, they have become my enemies! 22With consummate hatred I hate them; I consider them my enemies.
Examine me, and probe my thoughts! Test me, and know my concerns! 23Examine me, God, and know my mind, test me, and know my thoughts.
See if there is any idolatrous tendency in me, and lead me in the reliable ancient path! 24See if there is any offensive tendency in me, and lead me in the eternal way.
