NET BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his loyal love endures! 1Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who can adequately recount the LORD's mighty acts, or relate all his praiseworthy deeds? 2Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the LORD, Or can show forth all His praise?
How blessed are those who promote justice, and do what is right all the time! 3How blessed are those who keep justice, Who practice righteousness at all times!
Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people! Pay attention to me, when you deliver, 4Remember me, O LORD, in Your favor toward Your people; Visit me with Your salvation,
so I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice along with your nation, and boast along with the people who belong to you. 5That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, That I may glory with Your inheritance.
We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong, we have done evil. 6We have sinned like our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.
Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea. 7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember Your abundant kindnesses, But rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
Yet he delivered them for the sake of his reputation, that he might reveal his power. 8Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, That He might make His power known.
He shouted at the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep water as if it were a desert. 9Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up, And He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them, and rescued them from the power of the enemy. 10So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived. 11The waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.
They believed his promises; they sang praises to him. 12Then they believed His words; They sang His praise.
They quickly forgot what he had done; they did not wait for his instructions. 13They quickly forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,
In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving for meat; they challenged God in the desert. 14But craved intensely in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert.
He granted their request, then struck them with a disease. 15So He gave them their request, But sent a wasting disease among them.
In the camp they resented Moses, and Aaron, the LORD's holy priest. 16When they became envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD,
The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it engulfed the group led by Abiram. 17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And engulfed the company of Abiram.
Fire burned their group; the flames scorched the wicked. 18And a fire blazed up in their company; The flame consumed the wicked.
They made an image of a calf at Horeb, and worshiped a metal idol. 19They made a calf in Horeb And worshiped a molten image.
They traded their majestic God for the image of an ox that eats grass. 20Thus they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass.
They rejected the God who delivered them, the one who performed great deeds in Egypt, 21They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt,
amazing feats in the land of Ham, mighty acts by the Red Sea. 22Wonders in the land of Ham And awesome things by the Red Sea.
He threatened to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him and turned back his destructive anger. 23Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
They rejected the fruitful land; they did not believe his promise. 24Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe in His word,
They grumbled in their tents; they did not obey the LORD. 25But grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert, 26Therefore He swore to them That He would cast them down in the wilderness,
make their descendants die among the nations, and scatter them among foreign lands. 27And that He would cast their seed among the nations And scatter them in the lands.
They worshiped Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead. 28They joined themselves also to Baal-peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They made the LORD angry by their actions, and a plague broke out among them. 29Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And the plague broke out among them.
Phinehas took a stand and intervened, and the plague subsided. 30Then Phinehas stood up and interposed, And so the plague was stayed.
This brought him a reward, an eternal gift. 31And it was reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations forever.
They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them, 32They also provoked Him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, So that it went hard with Moses on their account;
for they aroused his temper, and he spoke rashly. 33Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.
They did not destroy the nations, as the LORD had commanded them to do. 34They did not destroy the peoples, As the LORD commanded them,
They mixed in with the nations and learned their ways. 35But they mingled with the nations And learned their practices,
They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. 36And served their idols, Which became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons. 37They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons,
They shed innocent blood--the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted by bloodshed. 38And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with the blood.
They were defiled by their deeds, and unfaithful in their actions. 39Thus they became unclean in their practices, And played the harlot in their deeds.
So the LORD was angry with his people and despised the people who belong to him. 40Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people And He abhorred His inheritance.
He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them. 41Then He gave them into the hand of the nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed them; they were subject to their authority. 42Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were subdued under their power.
Many times he delivered them, but they had a rebellious attitude, and degraded themselves by their sin. 43Many times He would deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their counsel, And so sank down in their iniquity.
Yet he took notice of their distress, when he heard their cry for help. 44Nevertheless He looked upon their distress When He heard their cry;
He remembered his covenant with them, and relented because of his great loyal love. 45And He remembered His covenant for their sake, And relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
He caused all their conquerors to have pity on them. 46He also made them objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors.
Deliver us, O LORD, our God! Gather us from among the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds. 47Save us, O LORD our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name And glory in Your praise.
The LORD God of Israel deserves praise, in the future and forevermore. Let all the people say, "We agree! Praise the LORD!" 48Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD!
