NET BibleNew Living Translation
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you occupy it and live in it,1“When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you as a special possession and you have conquered it and settled there,
you must take the first of all the ground's produce you harvest from the land the LORD your God is giving you, place it in a basket, and go to the place where he chooses to locate his name.2put some of the first produce from each crop you harvest into a basket and bring it to the designated place of worship—the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored.
You must go to the priest in office at that time and say to him, "I declare today to the LORD your God that I have come into the land that the LORD promised to our ancestors to give us."3Go to the priest in charge at that time and say to him, ‘With this gift I acknowledge to the LORD your God that I have entered the land he swore to our ancestors he would give us.’
The priest will then take the basket from you and set it before the altar of the LORD your God.4The priest will then take the basket from your hand and set it before the altar of the LORD your God.
Then you must affirm before the LORD your God, "A wandering Aramean was my ancestor, and he went down to Egypt and lived there as a foreigner with a household few in number, but there he became a great, powerful, and numerous people.5“You must then say in the presence of the LORD your God, ‘My ancestor Jacob was a wandering Aramean who went to live as a foreigner in Egypt. His family arrived few in number, but in Egypt they became a large and mighty nation.
But the Egyptians mistreated and oppressed us, forcing us to do burdensome labor.6When the Egyptians oppressed and humiliated us by making us their slaves,
So we cried out to the LORD, the God of our ancestors, and he heard us and saw our humiliation, toil, and oppression.7we cried out to the LORD, the God of our ancestors. He heard our cries and saw our hardship, toil, and oppression.
Therefore the LORD brought us out of Egypt with tremendous strength and power, as well as with great awe-inspiring signs and wonders.8So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand and powerful arm, with overwhelming terror, and with miraculous signs and wonders.
Then he brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.9He brought us to this place and gave us this land flowing with milk and honey!
So now, look! I have brought the first of the ground's produce that you, LORD, have given me." Then you must set it down before the LORD your God and worship before him.10And now, O LORD, I have brought you the first portion of the harvest you have given me from the ground.’ Then place the produce before the LORD your God, and bow to the ground in worship before him.
You will celebrate all the good things that the LORD your God has given you and your family, along with the Levites and the resident foreigners among you. 11Afterward you may go and celebrate because of all the good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household. Remember to include the Levites and the foreigners living among you in the celebration.
When you finish tithing all your income in the third year (the year of tithing), you must give it to the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows so that they may eat to their satisfaction in your villages.12“Every third year you must offer a special tithe of your crops. In this year of the special tithe you must give your tithes to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows, so that they will have enough to eat in your towns.
Then you shall say before the LORD your God, "I have removed the sacred offering from my house and given it to the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows just as you have commanded me. I have not violated or forgotten your commandments.13Then you must declare in the presence of the LORD your God, ‘I have taken the sacred gift from my house and have given it to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows, just as you commanded me. I have not violated or forgotten any of your commands.
I have not eaten anything when I was in mourning, or removed any of it while ceremonially unclean, or offered any of it to the dead; I have obeyed you and have done everything you have commanded me.14I have not eaten any of it while in mourning; I have not handled it while I was ceremonially unclean; and I have not offered any of it to the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God and have done everything you commanded me.
Look down from your holy dwelling place in heaven and bless your people Israel and the land you have given us, just as you promised our ancestors--a land flowing with milk and honey." 15Now look down from your holy dwelling place in heaven and bless your people Israel and the land you swore to our ancestors to give us—a land flowing with milk and honey.’ A Call to Obey the LORD’s Commands
Today the LORD your God is commanding you to keep these statutes and ordinances, something you must do with all your heart and soul.16“Today the LORD your God has commanded you to obey all these decrees and regulations. So be careful to obey them wholeheartedly.
Today you have declared the LORD to be your God, and that you will walk in his ways, keep his statutes, commandments, and ordinances, and obey him.17You have declared today that the LORD is your God. And you have promised to walk in his ways, and to obey his decrees, commands, and regulations, and to do everything he tells you.
And today the LORD has declared you to be his special people (as he already promised you) so you may keep all his commandments.18The LORD has declared today that you are his people, his own special treasure, just as he promised, and that you must obey all his commands.
Then he will elevate you above all the nations he has made and you will receive praise, fame, and honor. You will be a people holy to the LORD your God, as he has said. 19And if you do, he will set you high above all the other nations he has made. Then you will receive praise, honor, and renown. You will be a nation that is holy to the LORD your God, just as he promised.”
