Psalm 56
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
For the music director; according to the yonath-elem-rechovim style; a prayer of David, written when the Philistines captured him in Gath. Have mercy on me, O God, for men are attacking me! All day long hostile enemies are tormenting me. 1O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long.
Those who anticipate my defeat attack me all day long. Indeed, many are fighting against me, O Exalted One. 2I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me.
When I am afraid, I trust in you. 3But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.
In God--I boast in his promise--in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men do to me? 4I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
All day long they cause me trouble; they make a habit of plotting my demise. 5They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me.
They stalk and lurk; they watch my every step, as they prepare to take my life. 6They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me.
Because they are bent on violence, do not let them escape! In your anger bring down the nations, O God! 7Don’t let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down.
You keep track of my misery. Put my tears in your leather container! Are they not recorded in your scroll? 8You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
My enemies will turn back when I cry out to you for help; I know that God is on my side. 9My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!
In God--I boast in his promise--in the LORD--I boast in his promise--10I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised.
in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men do to me? 11I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
I am obligated to fulfill the vows I made to you, O God; I will give you the thank-offerings you deserve, 12I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help.
when you deliver my life from death. You keep my feet from stumbling, so that I might serve God as I enjoy life. 13For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.
