Psalm 74
NKJV Parallel BSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionBerean Study Bible
A Contemplation of Asaph. O God, why have You cast us off forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?1A Maskil of Asaph. Why have You rejected us forever, O God? Why does Your anger smolder against the sheep of Your pasture?
Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, The tribe of Your inheritance, which You have redeemed— This Mount Zion where You have dwelt.2Remember Your congregation, which You purchased long ago and redeemed as the tribe of Your inheritance—Mount Zion where You dwell.
Lift up Your feet to the perpetual desolations. The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.3Turn Your steps to the everlasting ruins, to everything in the sanctuary the enemy has destroyed.
Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; They set up their banners for signs.4Your foes have roared within Your meeting place; they have unfurled their banners as signs,
They seem like men who lift up Axes among the thick trees.5like men wielding axes in a thicket of trees
And now they break down its carved work, all at once, With axes and hammers.6and smashing all the carvings with hatchets and picks.
They have set fire to Your sanctuary; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name to the ground.7They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; they have defiled the dwelling place of Your Name.
They said in their hearts, “Let us destroy them altogether.” They have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land.8They said in their hearts, “We will crush them completely.” They burned down every place where God met us in the land.
We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet; Nor is there any among us who knows how long.9There are no signs for us to see. There is no longer any prophet. And none of us knows how long this will last.
O God, how long will the adversary reproach? Will the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?10How long, O God, will the enemy taunt You? Will the foe revile Your name forever?
Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? Take it out of Your bosom and destroy them.11Why do You withdraw Your strong right hand? Stretch it out to destroy them!
For God is my King from of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.12Yet God is my King from ancient times, working salvation on the earth.
You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea serpents in the waters.13You divided the sea by Your strength; You smashed the heads of the dragons of the sea;
You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces, And gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.14You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You fed him to the creatures of the desert.
You broke open the fountain and the flood; You dried up mighty rivers.15You broke open the fountain and the flood; You dried up the ever-flowing rivers.
The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun.16The day is Yours, and also the night; You established the moon and the sun.
You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter.17You set all the boundaries of the earth; You made the summer and winter.
Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, And that a foolish people has blasphemed Your name.18Remember how the enemy has mocked You, O LORD, how a foolish people has spurned Your name.
Oh, do not deliver the life of Your turtledove to the wild beast! Do not forget the life of Your poor forever.19Do not deliver the soul of Your dove to beasts; do not forget the lives of Your afflicted forever.
Have respect to the covenant; For the dark places of the earth are full of the haunts of cruelty.20Consider Your covenant, for haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.
Oh, do not let the oppressed return ashamed! Let the poor and needy praise Your name.21Do not let the oppressed retreat in shame; may the poor and needy praise Your name.
Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily.22Rise up, O God; defend Your cause! Remember how the fool mocks You all day long.
Do not forget the voice of Your enemies; The tumult of those who rise up against You increases continually.23Do not disregard the clamor of Your adversaries, the uproar of Your enemies that ascends continually.
