New King James VersionBerean Study Bible
A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.1A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.2Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.
You turn man to destruction, And say, “Return, O children of men.”3You return man to dust, saying, “Return, O sons of mortals.”
For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night.4For in Your sight a thousand years are but a day that passes, or a watch of the night.
You carry them away like a flood; They are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up:5You whisk them away in their sleep; they are like the new grass of the morning—
In the morning it flourishes and grows up; In the evening it is cut down and withers.6in the morning it springs up new, but by evening it fades and withers.
For we have been consumed by Your anger, And by Your wrath we are terrified.7For we are consumed by Your anger and terrified by Your wrath.
You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.8You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your presence.
For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh.9For all our days decline in Your fury; we finish our years with a sigh.
The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.10The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty if we are strong—yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.11Who knows the power of Your anger? Your wrath matches the fear You are due.
So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.12So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.
Return, O LORD! How long? And have compassion on Your servants.13Return, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on Your servants.
Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!14Satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil.15Make us glad for as many days as You have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil.
Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children.16May Your work be shown to Your servants, and Your splendor to their children.
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.17May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish for us the work of our hands—yes, establish the work of our hands!
