Psalm 44
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, The deeds You did in their days, In days of old:1O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, what deeds you performed in their days, in the days of old:
You drove out the nations with Your hand, But them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.2you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free;
For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them.3for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them.
You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob.4You are my King, O God; ordain salvation for Jacob!
Through You we will push down our enemies; Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.5Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us.
For I will not trust in my bow, Nor shall my sword save me.6For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me.
But You have saved us from our enemies, And have put to shame those who hated us.7But you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us.
In God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever. Selah8In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah
But You have cast us off and put us to shame, And You do not go out with our armies.9But you have rejected us and disgraced us and have not gone out with our armies.
You make us turn back from the enemy, And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves.10You have made us turn back from the foe, and those who hate us have gotten spoil.
You have given us up like sheep intended for food, And have scattered us among the nations.11You have made us like sheep for slaughter and have scattered us among the nations.
You sell Your people for next to nothing, And are not enriched by selling them.12You have sold your people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them.
You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scorn and a derision to those all around us.13You have made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those around us.
You make us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.14You have made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.
My dishonor is continually before me, And the shame of my face has covered me,15All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face
Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the enemy and the avenger.16at the sound of the taunter and reviler, at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.
All this has come upon us; But we have not forgotten You, Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant.17All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten you, and we have not been false to your covenant.
Our heart has not turned back, Nor have our steps departed from Your way;18Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way;
But You have severely broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death.19yet you have broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.
If we had forgotten the name of our God, Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god,20If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
Would not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.21would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart.
Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.22Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord? Arise! Do not cast us off forever.23Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!
Why do You hide Your face, And forget our affliction and our oppression?24Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
For our soul is bowed down to the dust; Our body clings to the ground.25For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground.
Arise for our help, And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.26Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!
