New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, Has spoken and called the earth From the rising of the sun to its going down.1The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth.2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.3Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest.
He shall call to the heavens from above, And to the earth, that He may judge His people:4He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
“Gather My saints together to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”5“Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
Let the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is Judge. Selah6The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah
“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, your God!7“Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.
I will not rebuke you for your sacrifices Or your burnt offerings, Which are continually before Me.8Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me.
I will not take a bull from your house, Nor goats out of your folds.9I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds.
For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills.10For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.11I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.12“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, Or drink the blood of goats?13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High.14Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High,
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”15and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth,16But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips?
Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you?17For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.
When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers.18If you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you keep company with adulterers.
You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit.19“You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son.20You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.
These things you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will rebuke you, And set them in order before your eyes.21These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
“Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, And there be none to deliver:22“Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!
Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.”23The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”
