Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,1Ὑπομίμνῃσκε αὐτοὺς ἀρχαῖς ἐξουσίαις ὑποτάσσεσθαι πειθαρχεῖν πρὸς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἑτοίμους εἶναι
to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.2μηδένα βλασφημεῖν ἀμάχους εἶναι ἐπιεικεῖς πᾶσαν ἐνδεικνυμένους πραΰτητα πρὸς πάντας ἀνθρώπους
For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.3Ἦμεν γάρ ποτε καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀνόητοι ἀπειθεῖς πλανώμενοι δουλεύοντες ἐπιθυμίαις καὶ ἡδοναῖς ποικίλαις ἐν κακίᾳ καὶ φθόνῳ διάγοντες στυγητοί μισοῦντες ἀλλήλους
But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,4Ὅτε δὲ χρηστότης καὶ φιλανθρωπία ἐπεφάνη τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν Θεοῦ
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,5οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων τῶν ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ ἐποιήσαμεν ἡμεῖς ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὸ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος ἔσωσεν ἡμᾶς διὰ λουτροῦ παλινγενεσίας καὶ ἀνακαινώσεως Πνεύματος Ἁγίου
whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,6οὗ ἐξέχεεν ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς πλουσίως διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν
that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.7ἵνα δικαιωθέντες τῇ ἐκείνου χάριτι κληρονόμοι γενηθῶμεν κατ’ ἐλπίδα ζωῆς αἰωνίου
This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.8Πιστὸς λόγος καὶ περὶ τούτων βούλομαί σε διαβεβαιοῦσθαι ἵνα φροντίζωσιν καλῶν ἔργων προΐστασθαι οἱ πεπιστευκότες Θεῷ ταῦτά ἐστιν καλὰ καὶ ὠφέλιμα τοῖς ἀνθρώποις
But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.9Μωρὰς δὲ ζητήσεις καὶ γενεαλογίας καὶ ἔρεις* καὶ μάχας νομικὰς περιΐστασο εἰσὶν γὰρ ἀνωφελεῖς καὶ μάταιοι
Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,10αἱρετικὸν ἄνθρωπον μετὰ μίαν καὶ δευτέραν νουθεσίαν παραιτοῦ
knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.11εἰδὼς ὅτι ἐξέστραπται τοιοῦτος καὶ ἁμαρτάνει ὢν αὐτοκατάκριτος
When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there.12Ὅταν πέμψω Ἀρτεμᾶν πρὸς σὲ Τυχικόν σπούδασον ἐλθεῖν πρός με εἰς Νικόπολιν ἐκεῖ γὰρ κέκρικα παραχειμάσαι
Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey with haste, that they may lack nothing.13Ζηνᾶν τὸν νομικὸν καὶ Ἀπολλῶν σπουδαίως πρόπεμψον ἵνα μηδὲν αὐτοῖς λείπῃ
And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.14μανθανέτωσαν δὲ καὶ οἱ ἡμέτεροι καλῶν ἔργων προΐστασθαι εἰς τὰς ἀναγκαίας χρείας ἵνα μὴ ὦσιν ἄκαρποι
All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all.
