NKJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.1Hear the message that the LORD has spoken to you, house of Israel.
Thus says the LORD: “Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.2This is what the LORD says: "Don't learn the way of the nations, and don't be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified of them.
For the customs of the peoples are futile; For one cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.3For the practices of the people are worthless. Indeed, a tree is cut down from the forest; it's the work of the hands of a craftsman with an ax.
They decorate it with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not topple.4They decorate it with silver and gold. They secure it with nails and hammers so it won't totter.
They are upright, like a palm tree, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them, For they cannot do evil, Nor can they do any good.”5Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field. They can't speak! They must always be carried because they can't walk! Don't be afraid of them because they can do no harm, nor can they do any good."
Inasmuch as there is none like You, O LORD (You are great, and Your name is great in might),6There is no one like you, LORD. You are great, and your name is great and powerful.
Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your rightful due. For among all the wise men of the nations, And in all their kingdoms, There is none like You.7Who wouldn't fear you, king of the nations? This is what you deserve! Indeed, among all the wise men of the nations, and throughout all their kingdoms, there is no one like you!
But they are altogether dull-hearted and foolish; A wooden idol is a worthless doctrine.8Everyone is stupid and senseless. They follow worthless instruction from a piece of wood!
Silver is beaten into plates; It is brought from Tarshish, And gold from Uphaz, The work of the craftsman And of the hands of the metalsmith; Blue and purple are their clothing; They are all the work of skillful men.9Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. The idols are the work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith. Their clothing is violet and purple. The idols are all the work of skilled craftsmen.
But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.10The LORD is the true God; he's the living God and the everlasting king. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation.
Thus you shall say to them: “The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”11 Tell this to them: "The gods who didn't make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from these heavens."
He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.12The LORD is the one who made the world by his power, who established the earth by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
When He utters His voice, There is a multitude of waters in the heavens: “And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, He brings the wind out of His treasuries.”13When his voice sounds there is thunder from the waters of heaven, and he makes clouds rise up from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings wind out of his storehouses.
Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge; Every metalsmith is put to shame by an image; For his molded image is falsehood, And there is no breath in them.14Everyone is stupid and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false. There is no life in them.
They are futile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish.15They're worthless, a work of mockery, and when the time of punishment comes, they'll perish.
The Portion of Jacob is not like them, For He is the Maker of all things, And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; The LORD of hosts is His name.16The Portion of Jacob is not like these. He made everything, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. The LORD of the Heavenly Armies is his name.
Gather up your wares from the land, O inhabitant of the fortress!17You who live under siege, Gather up your bundle from the ground.
For thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will throw out at this time The inhabitants of the land, And will distress them, That they may find it so.18For this is what the LORD says: "I'm going to throw out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and I'll bring distress on them so they'll experience it."
Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is severe. But I say, “Truly this is an infirmity, And I must bear it.”19Woe is me because of my injury. My wound is severe. I said, "Truly this is my sickness, and I must bear it.
My tent is plundered, And all my cords are broken; My children have gone from me, And they are no more. There is no one to pitch my tent anymore, Or set up my curtains.20My tent is destroyed, and all my tent cords are broken. My sons have gone away from me, they no longer live. There is no one to pitch my tent again and set up my curtains.
For the shepherds have become dull-hearted, And have not sought the LORD; Therefore they shall not prosper, And all their flocks shall be scattered.21Because the shepherds are stupid and don't seek the LORD, therefore, they don't prosper, and their flock is scattered.
Behold, the noise of the report has come, And a great commotion out of the north country, To make the cities of Judah desolate, a den of jackals.22The sound of a report, it's coming now! There is a great commotion from a land in the north to make the towns of Judah desolate, a refuge for jackals."
O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.23LORD, I know that a person's life is not his to control, nor does a person establish his way in life.
O LORD, correct me, but with justice; Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.24LORD, correct me, but with justice, not with anger. Otherwise, you'll bring me to nothing.
Pour out Your fury on the Gentiles, who do not know You, And on the families who do not call on Your name; For they have eaten up Jacob, Devoured him and consumed him, And made his dwelling place desolate.25Pour out your anger on the nations that don't acknowledge you, and on the families that don't call on your name. For they have devoured Jacob; they have devoured and consumed him; they have devastated his habitation.
