Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.1Now Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah.
And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.2She bore to him Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah.
Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.3Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim.
And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.4The sons of Midian were Ephah and Epher and Hanoch and Abida and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.
And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.5Now Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac;
But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.6but to the sons of his concubines, Abraham gave gifts while he was still living, and sent them away from his son Isaac eastward, to the land of the east.
This is the sum of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred and seventy-five years.7These are all the years of Abraham's life that he lived, one hundred and seventy-five years.
Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.8Abraham breathed his last and died in a ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life; and he was gathered to his people.
And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,9Then his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, facing Mamre,
the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.10the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth; there Abraham was buried with Sarah his wife.
And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.11It came about after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac lived by Beer-lahai-roi.
Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.12Now these are the records of the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's maid, bore to Abraham;
And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,13and these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael, and Kedar and Adbeel and Mibsam
Mishma, Dumah, Massa,14and Mishma and Dumah and Massa,
Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.15Hadad and Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.
These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.16These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages, and by their camps; twelve princes according to their tribes.
These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.17These are the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.
(They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He died in the presence of all his brethren.18They settled from Havilah to Shur which is east of Egypt as one goes toward Assyria; he settled in defiance of all his relatives.
This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac.19Now these are the records of the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham became the father of Isaac;
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.20and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.
Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.
But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.22But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why then am I this way?" So she went to inquire of the LORD.
And the LORD said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”23The LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb; And two peoples will be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger."
So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.24When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.25Now the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment; and they named him Esau.
Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.26Afterward his brother came forth with his hand holding on to Esau's heel, so his name was called Jacob; and Isaac was sixty years old when she gave birth to them.
So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.27When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a peaceful man, living in tents.
And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.28Now Isaac loved Esau, because he had a taste for game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.29When Jacob had cooked stew, Esau came in from the field and he was famished;
And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.30and Esau said to Jacob, "Please let me have a swallow of that red stuff there, for I am famished." Therefore his name was called Edom.
But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”31But Jacob said, "First sell me your birthright."
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”32Esau said, "Behold, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?"
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.33And Jacob said, "First swear to me"; so he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.
And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
