Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.1Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah.
And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.
Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.3Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan; the descendants of Dedan were the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.
And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.
And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.5Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac.
But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.6But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.
This is the sum of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred and seventy-five years.7Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years.
Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.8Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people.
And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite,
the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.10the field Abraham had bought from the Hittites. There Abraham was buried with his wife Sarah.
And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.11After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac, who then lived near Beer Lahai Roi.
Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.12This is the account of the family line of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Sarah's slave, Hagar the Egyptian, bore to Abraham.
And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,13These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
Mishma, Dumah, Massa,14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.
These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.16These were the sons of Ishmael, and these are the names of the twelve tribal rulers according to their settlements and camps.
These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.17Ishmael lived a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people.
(They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He died in the presence of all his brethren.18His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go toward Ashur. And they lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them.
This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac.19This is the account of the family line of Abraham's son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac,
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.20and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.
Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.22The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, "Why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the LORD.
And the LORD said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”23The LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger."
So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.24When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.
And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.25The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.
Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.26After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.
So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.27The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.
And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.28Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.29Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished.
And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.30He said to Jacob, "Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I'm famished!" (That is why he was also called Edom.)
But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”31Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright."
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”32"Look, I am about to die," Esau said. "What good is the birthright to me?"
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.33But Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.
And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.
