Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:1With regard to spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led.2You know that when you were pagans you were often led astray by speechless idols, however you were led.
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.3So I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.4Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.5And there are different ministries, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.6And there are different results, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:7To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all.
for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,8For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,9to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.10to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.11It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.
For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.12For just as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body--though many--are one body, so too is Christ.
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.
For in fact the body is not one member but many.14For in fact the body is not a single member, but many.
If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?15If the foot says, "Since I am not a hand, I am not part of the body," it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?16And if the ear says, "Since I am not an eye, I am not part of the body," it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?17If the whole body were an eye, what part would do the hearing? If the whole were an ear, what part would exercise the sense of smell?
But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.18But as a matter of fact, God has placed each of the members in the body just as he decided.
And if they were all one member, where would the body be?19If they were all the same member, where would the body be?
But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.20So now there are many members, but one body.
And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I do not need you," nor in turn can the head say to the foot, "I do not need you."
No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.22On the contrary, those members that seem to be weaker are essential,
And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty,23and those members we consider less honorable we clothe with greater honor, and our unpresentable members are clothed with dignity,
but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it,24but our presentable members do not need this. Instead, God has blended together the body, giving greater honor to the lesser member,
that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.25so that there may be no division in the body, but the members may have mutual concern for one another.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.26If one member suffers, everyone suffers with it. If a member is honored, all rejoice with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.27Now you are Christ's body, and each of you is a member of it.
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.28And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles?29Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?
Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?30Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they?
But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.31But you should be eager for the greater gifts. And now I will show you a way that is beyond comparison.
