New King James VersionNew Living Translation
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,1I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,3This is good and pleases God our Savior,
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,5For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.
who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,6He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.
I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;8In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.
in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,9And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.10For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
Let a woman learn in silence with all submission.11Women should learn quietly and submissively.
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.12I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.13For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.14And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result.
Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.15But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.
