| 1[i]A Psalm[/i] of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. | 1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! |
| 2Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. | 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! |
| 3When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. |
| 4For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah | 4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude |
| 5I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah | 5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. | 6For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. | 6Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. |

| 8I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. | 8The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. |
| 9Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. | 9Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” |
| 10Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him. | 10Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD. |
| 11Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart! | 11So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! |
