New King James VersionNew Living Translation
A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long.3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude
I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude
For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.6Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah7For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.8The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.
Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.9Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.10Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!11So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!
