New Living TranslationInternational Standard Version
Then the LORD said to Job,1The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:
“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job Responds to the LORD2"Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."
Then Job replied to the LORD,3Then Job replied to the LORD. He said:
“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand.4"I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless.
I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” The LORD Challenges Job Again5I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore."
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:6The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him:
“Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.7"Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!
“Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?8Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?
Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his?9Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"
All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty.10"When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity,
Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud.11dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,
Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.12stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,
Bury them in the dust. Imprison them in the world of the dead.13buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place,
Then even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you.14then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"
“Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox.15"Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.
See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly.16Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.
Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together.17His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.
Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron.18His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.
It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it.19He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword.
The mountains offer it their best food, where all the wild animals play.20Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.
It lies under the lotus plants, hidden by the reeds in the marsh.21He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes.
The lotus plants give it shade among the willows beside the stream.22The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.
It is not disturbed by the raging river, not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it.23What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.
No one can catch it off guard or put a ring in its nose and lead it away.24Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"
