1Then the LORD said to Job,

2“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job Responds to the LORD

2"Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it."

3Then Job replied to the LORD,

3Then Job answered the LORD and said,

4“I am nothing—how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand.

4"Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth.

5I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” The LORD Challenges Job Again

5"Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more."

6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:

6Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said,

7“Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.

7"Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me.

8“Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?

8"Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified?

9Are you as strong as God? Can you thunder with a voice like his?

9"Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His?

10All right, put on your glory and splendor, your honor and majesty.

10"Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity, And clothe yourself with honor and majesty.

11Give vent to your anger. Let it overflow against the proud.

11"Pour out the overflowings of your anger, And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low.

12Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.

12"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand.

13Bury them in the dust. Imprison them in the world of the dead.

13"Hide them in the dust together; Bind them in the hidden place.

14Then even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you.

14"Then I will also confess to you, That your own right hand can save you.

15“Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox.

15"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox.

16See its powerful loins and the muscles of its belly.

16"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly.

17Its tail is as strong as a cedar. The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together.

17"He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

18Its bones are tubes of bronze. Its limbs are bars of iron.

18"His bones are tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron.

19It is a prime example of God’s handiwork, and only its Creator can threaten it.

19"He is the first of the ways of God; Let his maker bring near his sword.

20The mountains offer it their best food, where all the wild animals play.

20"Surely the mountains bring him food, And all the beasts of the field play there.

21It lies under the lotus plants, hidden by the reeds in the marsh.

21"Under the lotus plants he lies down, In the covert of the reeds and the marsh.

22The lotus plants give it shade among the willows beside the stream.

22"The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him.

23It is not disturbed by the raging river, not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it.

23"If a river rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth.

24No one can catch it off guard or put a ring in its nose and lead it away.

24"Can anyone capture him when he is on watch, With barbs can anyone pierce his nose?
