Matthew 7
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.1Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
“Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you. Effective Prayer6Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. The Golden Rule11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. The Narrow Gate12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. The Tree and Its Fruit14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit.17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. True Disciples20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ Building on a Solid Foundation23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
