Then the leaders of the tribe of Levi came to consult with Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders of the other tribes of Israel.1The tribal leaders of the Levites went before Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun and the Israelite tribal leaders
They came to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said, “The LORD commanded Moses to give us towns to live in and pasturelands for our livestock.”2in Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said, "The LORD told Moses to assign us cities in which to live along with the grazing areas for our cattle."
So by the command of the LORD the people of Israel gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own grants of land.3So the Israelites assigned these cities and their grazing areas to the Levites from their own holdings, as the LORD had instructed.
The descendants of Aaron, who were members of the Kohathite clan within the tribe of Levi, were allotted thirteen towns that were originally assigned to the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.4The first lot belonged to the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen cities from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
The other families of the Kohathite clan were allotted ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.5The rest of Kohath's descendants were allotted ten cities from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, and from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
The clan of Gershon was allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.6Gershon's descendants were allotted thirteen cities from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, and from the tribes of Asher and Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
The clan of Merari was allotted twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.7Merari's descendants by their clans were allotted twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
So the Israelites obeyed the LORD’s command to Moses and assigned these towns and pasturelands to the Levites by casting sacred lots.8So the Israelites assigned to the Levites by lot these cities and their grazing areas, as the LORD had instructed Moses.
The Israelites gave the following towns from the tribes of Judah and Simeon9They assigned from the tribes of Judah and Simeon the cities listed below.
to the descendants of Aaron, who were members of the Kohathite clan within the tribe of Levi, since the sacred lot fell to them first:10They were assigned to the Kohathite clans of the Levites who were descendants of Aaron, for the first lot belonged to them.
Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), in the hill country of Judah, along with its surrounding pasturelands. (Arba was an ancestor of Anak.)11They assigned them Kiriath Arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with its surrounding grazing areas.
But the open fields beyond the town and the surrounding villages were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.12(Now the city's fields and surrounding towns they had assigned to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.)
The following towns with their pasturelands were given to the descendants of Aaron the priest: Hebron (a city of refuge for those who accidentally killed someone), Libnah,13So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they assigned Hebron (a city of refuge for one who committed manslaughter), Libnah,
Jattir, Eshtemoa,14Jattir, Eshtemoa,
Holon, Debir,15Holon, Debir,
Ain, Juttah, and Beth-shemesh—nine towns from these two tribes.16Ain, Juttah, and Beth Shemesh, along with the grazing areas of each--a total of nine cities taken from these two tribes.

The rest of the Kohathite clan from the tribe of Levi was allotted the following towns and pasturelands from the tribe of Ephraim:20The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted cities from the tribe of Ephraim.
Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim (a city of refuge for those who accidentally killed someone), Gezer,21They assigned them Shechem (a city of refuge for one who committed manslaughter) in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer,

So in all, ten towns with their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clan.26The rest of the Kohathite clans received ten cities and their grazing areas.
The descendants of Gershon, another clan within the tribe of Levi, received the following towns with their pasturelands from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for those who accidentally killed someone) and Be-eshterah—two towns.27They assigned to the Gershonite clans of the Levites the following cities: from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one who committed manslaughter) and Beeshtarah, along with the grazing areas of each--a total of two cities;

So in all, thirteen towns with their pasturelands were allotted to the clan of Gershon.33The Gershonite clans received thirteen cities and their grazing areas.
The rest of the Levites—the Merari clan—were given the following towns with their pasturelands from the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam, Kartah,34They assigned to the Merarite clans (the remaining Levites) the following cities: from the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam, Kartah,
Dimnah, and Nahalal—four towns.35Dimnah, and Nahalal, along with the grazing areas of each--a total of four cities;
From the tribe of Reuben they received the following towns with their pasturelands: Bezer, Jahaz,36from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer, Jahaz,
Kedemoth, and Mephaath—four towns.37Kedemoth, and Mephaath, along with the grazing areas of each--a total of four cities;

So in all, twelve towns were allotted to the clan of Merari.40The Merarite clans (the remaining Levites) were allotted twelve cities.
The total number of towns and pasturelands within Israelite territory given to the Levites came to forty-eight.41The Levites received within the land owned by the Israelites forty-eight cities in all and their grazing areas.
Every one of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it.42Each of these cities had grazing areas around it; they were alike in this regard.
So the LORD gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.43So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had solemnly promised to their ancestors, and they conquered it and lived in it.
And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had solemnly promised their ancestors. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD helped them conquer all their enemies.44The LORD made them secure, in fulfillment of all he had solemnly promised their ancestors. None of their enemies could resist them.
Not a single one of all the good promises the LORD had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.45Not one of the LORD's faithful promises to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; every one was realized.
