Living for God's Glory

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.1Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,1Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,1Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;1Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, equip yourselves also with the same resolve--because the one who suffered in the flesh has finished with sin--
2As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.2so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.2so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.2in order to live the remaining time in the flesh, no longer for human desires, but for God's will.
3For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.3For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.3For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:3For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the pagans choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.
4They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.4With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;4In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you;4Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:4So they are surprised that you don't plunge with them into the same flood of wild living--and they slander you.

5But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.5They will give an account to the One who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.
6For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.6For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.6For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.6For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.6For this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so that, although they might be judged by men in the fleshly realm, they might live by God in the spiritual realm.
7The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.7The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.7The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.7Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be serious and disciplined for prayer.
8Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.8Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.8Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.8And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.8Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.
9Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.9Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.9Be hospitable to one another without complaint.9Use hospitality one to another without grudging.9Be hospitable to one another without complaining.

10Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.10As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:10As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.10As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.10Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.
11If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.11whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.11Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.11If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.11If anyone speaks, it should be as one who speaks God's words; if anyone serves, it should be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

Suffering as Christians

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
12Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:12Dear friends, don't be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you as if something unusual were happening to you.
13But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.13But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.13but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.13But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.13Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of the Messiah, so that you may also rejoice with great joy at the revelation of His glory.
14If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.14If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.14If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.14If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
15If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.15But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.15Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.15None of you, however, should suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
16However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.16Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.16but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.16Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.16But if anyone suffers as a "Christian," he should not be ashamed but should glorify God in having that name.
17For it is time for judgment to begin with God's household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?17For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?17For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?17For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?17For the time has come for judgment to begin with God's household, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?
18And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"18And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”18AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?18And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?18And if a righteous person is saved with difficulty, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?
19So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.19Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.19Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.19Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.19So those who suffer according to God's will should, while doing what is good, entrust themselves to a faithful Creator.
