1 Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribes of Israel Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel; Then the heads of fathers’ <i>households</i> of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of fathers’ <i>households</i> of the tribes of the sons of Israel. 2 at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities in which to live, together with pasturelands for our livestock.” And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle. And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “The LORD commanded through Moses to give us cities to live in, with their pasture lands for our cattle.” at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”
3 So by the command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands out of their own inheritance: So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs. So the sons of Israel gave the Levites from their inheritance these cities with their pasture lands, in accordance with the command of the LORD. So, as the LORD had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 The first lot came out for the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, <i>which were</i> of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities. Then the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites. And to the sons of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, thirteen cities were <i>given</i> by lot from the tribe of Judah, from the tribe of the Simeonites, and from the tribe of Benjamin. 5 The remaining descendants of Kohath received ten cities by lot from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. And the rest of the children of Kohath <i>had</i> by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. And to the rest of the sons of Kohath ten cities <i>were given</i> by lot from the families of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh. The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.
6 The descendants of Gershon received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. And the children of Gershon <i>had</i> by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. And to the sons of Gershon thirteen cities <i>were given</i> by lot from the families of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. 7 And the descendants of Merari received twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. The children of Merari by their families <i>had</i> out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. To the sons of Merari according to their families twelve cities <i>were given</i> from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun. The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these cities, together with their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. These cities and their pasturelands the people of Israel gave by lot to the Levites, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses. Now the sons of Israel gave by lot to the Levites these cities with their pasture lands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses. So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
9 From the tribes of Judah and Simeon, they designated these cities by name Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are <i>here</i> mentioned by name, They gave these cities which are mentioned <i>here</i> by name from the tribe of the sons of Judah and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon; From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name
10 to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them: which went to the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. Which the children of Aaron, <i>being</i> of the families of the Kohathites, <i>who were</i> of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot. and they were for the sons of Aaron, one of the families of the Kohathites, of the sons of Levi, because the lot was theirs first. (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pasturelands, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the father of Anak.) They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it. And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which <i>city is</i> Hebron, in the hill <i>country</i> of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it. So they gave them Kiriath-arba (<i>Arba being</i> the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its surrounding pasture lands. They gave them Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
12 But they had given the fields and villages around the city to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession. But the fields of the city and its villages had been given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession. 16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth-shemesh— nine cities from these two tribes, together with their pasturelands. 18 Anathoth, and Almon— four cities, together with their pasturelands. Anathoth with its pasturelands, and Almon with its pasturelands—four cities. 19 In all, thirteen cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the priests, the descendants of Aaron. The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands. All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, <i>were</i> thirteen cities with their suburbs. All the cities of the sons of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their pasture lands. The total number of towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
20 The remaining Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted these cities: From the tribe of Ephraim As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim. And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites which remained of the children of Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim. Then the cities from the tribe of Ephraim were allotted to the families of the sons of Kohath, the Levites, <i>that is, to</i> the rest of the sons of Kohath. The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:

24 Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon— four cities, together with their pasturelands. Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—four cities; Aijalon with her suburbs, Gathrimmon with her suburbs; four cities. Aijalon with its pasture lands, Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands; four cities. Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 And from the half-tribe of Manasseh they were given Taanach and Gath-rimmon— two cities, together with their pasturelands. and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands—two cities. And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Tanach with her suburbs, and Gathrimmon with her suburbs; two cities. From the half-tribe of Manasseh, <i>they allotted</i> Taanach with its pasture lands and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands; two cities. From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 In all, ten cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans. The cities of the clans of the rest of the Kohathites were ten in all with their pasturelands. All the cities <i>were</i> ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of Kohath that remained. All the cities with their pasture lands for the families of the rest of the sons of Kohath were ten. All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.
27 This is what the Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: From the half-tribe of Manasseh they were given Golan in Bashan, a city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah— two cities, together with their pasturelands. And to the Gershonites, one of the clans of the Levites, were given out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities; And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the <i>other</i> half tribe of Manasseh <i>they gave</i> Golan in Bashan with her suburbs, <i>to be</i> a city of refuge for the slayer; and Beeshterah with her suburbs; two cities. 40 In all, twelve cities were allotted to the clans of Merari, the remaining Levite clans. As for the cities of the several Merarite clans, that is, the remainder of the clans of the Levites, those allotted to them were in all twelve cities. So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were <i>by</i> their lot twelve cities. All <i>these were</i> the cities of the sons of Merari according to their families, the rest of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities. The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.
41 For the Levites, then, there were forty-eight cities in all, together with their pasturelands, within the territory of the Israelites. The cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the people of Israel were in all forty-eight cities with their pasturelands. All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel <i>were</i> forty and eight cities with their suburbs. All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel were forty-eight cities with their pasture lands. The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.
42 Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities. These cities each had its pasturelands around it. So it was with all these cities. These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus <i>were</i> all these cities. These cities individually had their surrounding pasture lands; this is how <i>it was</i> with all these cities. Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it. Thus the LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein. So the LORD gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and lived in it. So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.
44 And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their fathers. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. And the LORD gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers. Not one of all their enemies had withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hands. And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. And the LORD gave them rest on every side, in accordance with everything that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; the LORD handed all their enemies over to them. The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands.
45 Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled. Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass. There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass. Not one of the good promises which the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed; everything came to pass. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
