Offerings for the Temple

1  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) דָּוִ֤יד (David) הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ (the king) לְכָל־ (to all) הַקָּהָ֔ל (the assembly), שְׁלֹמֹ֨ה (Solomon) בְנִ֥י (My son)— אֶחָ֛ד (the one) בָּֽחַר־ (has chosen) בּ֥וֹ (him) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God)— נַ֣עַר (is young) וָרָ֑ךְ (and tender), וְהַמְּלָאכָ֣ה (and the work is) גְדוֹלָ֔ה (great), כִּ֣י (because) לֹ֤א (not) לְאָדָם֙ (for man) הַבִּירָ֔ה (the palace is), כִּ֖י (but) לַיהוָ֥ה (for YHWH) אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (God). 2  וּֽכְכָל־ (And with all) כֹּחִ֞י (my power) הֲכִינ֣וֹתִי (I have provided) לְבֵית־ (for the house) אֱלֹהַ֗י (of my God) הַזָּהָ֣ב׀ (gold) לַ֠זָּהָב (for the gold), וְהַכֶּ֨סֶף (and the silver) לַכֶּ֜סֶף (for the silver), וְהַנְּחֹ֣שֶׁת (and the bronze) לַנְּחֹ֗שֶׁת (for the bronze), הַבַּרְזֶל֙ (the iron) לַבַּרְזֶ֔ל (for the iron), וְהָעֵצִ֖ים (and the wood) לָעֵצִ֑ים (for the wood), אַבְנֵי־ (stones) שֹׁ֨הַם (onyx) וּמִלּוּאִ֜ים (and settings), אַבְנֵי־ (and stones) פ֣וּךְ (of glistening) וְרִקְמָ֗ה (and various colors), וְכֹ֨ל (and all) אֶ֧בֶן (stone) יְקָרָ֛ה (precious), וְאַבְנֵי־ (and stones) שַׁ֖יִשׁ (of marble) לָרֹֽב׃ (in abundance).

3  וְע֗וֹד (And again), בִּרְצוֹתִי֙ (in my delighting) בְּבֵ֣ית (in the house) אֱלֹהַ֔י (of my God) יֶשׁ־ (is) לִ֥י (unto me) סְגֻלָּ֖ה (a peculiar treasure) זָהָ֣ב (of gold) וָכָ֑סֶף (and silver) נָתַ֤תִּי (I have given) לְבֵית־ (to the house) אֱלֹהַי֙ (of my God) לְמַ֔עְלָה (above) מִכָּל־ (all) הֲכִינ֖וֹתִי (that I have prepared) לְבֵ֥ית (for the house) הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ (of the sanctuary): 4  שְׁלֹ֧שֶׁת (Three) אֲלָפִ֛ים (thousand) כִּכְּרֵ֥י (talents) זָהָ֖ב (of gold) מִזְּהַ֣ב (of the gold) אוֹפִ֑יר (of Ophir)) וְשִׁבְעַ֨ת (and seven) אֲלָפִ֤ים (thousand) כִּכַּר־ (talents) כֶּ֙סֶף֙ (of silver) מְזֻקָּ֔ק (refined), לָט֖וּחַ (to overlay) קִיר֥וֹת (the walls) הַבָּתִּֽים׃ (of the houses), 5  לַזָּהָ֤ב (even the gold) לַזָּהָב֙ (for the things of gold), וְלַכֶּ֣סֶף (and the silver) לַכֶּ֔סֶף (for the things of silver), וּלְכָל־ (and for all) מְלָאכָ֖ה (the work) בְּיַ֣ד (by the hand) חָרָשִׁ֑ים (of craftsmen). וּמִ֣י (And who) מִתְנַדֵּ֔ב (is willing) לְמַלֹּ֥אות (to consecrate) יָד֛וֹ (himself) הַיּ֖וֹם (today) לַיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH)?

6  וַיִּֽתְנַדְּבוּ֩ (And offered freely) שָׂרֵ֨י (the heads) הָאָב֜וֹת (of the fathers) וְשָׂרֵ֣י׀ (and the heads) שִׁבְטֵ֣י (of the tribes) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel), וְשָׂרֵ֤י (and the heads) הָאֲלָפִים֙ (of the thousands) וְהַמֵּא֔וֹת (and of the hundreds), וּלְשָׂרֵ֖י (and the heads) מְלֶ֥אכֶת (of the work) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king). 7  וַֽיִּתְּנ֞וּ (And they gave) לַעֲבוֹדַ֣ת (for the work) בֵּית־ (of the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים (of God) זָהָ֞ב (of gold) כִּכָּרִ֣ים (talents) חֲמֵֽשֶׁת־ (five) אֲלָפִים֮ (thousand) וַאֲדַרְכֹנִ֣ים (of darics) רִבּוֹ֒ (a myriad), וְכֶ֗סֶף (and of silver) כִּכָּרִים֙ (talents) עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת (ten) אֲלָפִ֔ים (thousand), וּנְחֹ֕שֶׁת (and of bronze) רִבּ֛וֹ (a myriad) וּשְׁמוֹנַ֥ת (and eight) אֲלָפִ֖ים (thousand) כִּכָּרִ֑ים (talents), וּבַרְזֶ֖ל (and of iron) מֵֽאָה־ (a hundred) אֶ֥לֶף (thousand) כִּכָּרִֽים׃ (talents). 8  וְהַנִּמְצָ֤א (And were found) אִתּוֹ֙ (he with whom) אֲבָנִ֔ים (stones), נָתְנ֖וּ (gave them) לְאוֹצַ֣ר (to the treasury) בֵּית־ (of the house) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) עַ֥ל (by) יַד־ (the hand) יְחִיאֵ֖ל (of Jehiel) הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּֽי׃ (the Gershonite). 9  וַיִּשְׂמְח֤וּ (And rejoiced) הָעָם֙ (the people), עַל־ (because) הִֽתְנַדְּבָ֔ם (they offered freely), כִּ֚י (for) בְּלֵ֣ב (with a heart) שָׁלֵ֔ם (loyal) הִֽתְנַדְּב֖וּ (they offered freely) לַיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH). וְגַם֙ (And also) דָּוִ֣יד (David) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (the king) שָׂמַ֖ח (rejoiced) שִׂמְחָ֥ה (with joy) גְדוֹלָֽה׃פ (great).

David’s Prayer of Blessing

10  וַיְבָ֤רֶךְ (And blessed) דָּוִיד֙ (David) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) לְעֵינֵ֖י (before) כָּל־ (all) הַקָּהָ֑ל (the assembly), וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (and said) דָּוִ֗יד (David),

בָּר֨וּךְ (Blessed are) אַתָּ֤ה (You), יְהוָה֙ (O YHWH) אֱלֹהֵי֙ (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (of Israel) אָבִ֔ינוּ (our Father), מֵעוֹלָ֖ם (from forever) וְעַד־ (and even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

11  לְךָ֣ (To You), יְ֠הוָה (O YHWH), הַגְּדֻלָּ֨ה (is the greatness), וְהַגְּבוּרָ֤ה (and the power), וְהַתִּפְאֶ֙רֶת֙ (and the glory), וְהַנֵּ֣צַח (and the victory), וְהַה֔וֹד (and the majesty), כִּי־ (because) כֹ֖ל (of everything) בַּשָּׁמַ֣יִם (in the heavens) וּבָאָ֑רֶץ (and in earth).

לְךָ֤ (To You), יְהוָה֙ (O YHWH), הַמַּמְלָכָ֔ה (is the kingdom), וְהַמִּתְנַשֵּׂ֖א (and You are exalted) לְכֹ֥ל׀ (over all) לְרֹֽאשׁ׃ (as head). 12  וְהָעֹ֤שֶׁר (And the riches) וְהַכָּבוֹד֙ (and the honor) מִלְּפָנֶ֔יךָ (are from before You), וְאַתָּה֙ (and You) מוֹשֵׁ֣ל (reign) בַּכֹּ֔ל (over all), וּבְיָדְךָ֖ (and in Your hand is) כֹּ֣חַ (power) וּגְבוּרָ֑ה (and might), וּבְיָ֣דְךָ֔ (and in Your hand is) לְגַדֵּ֥ל (to exalt) וּלְחַזֵּ֖ק (and to give strength) לַכֹּֽל׃ (to all).

13  וְעַתָּ֣ה (And now) אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ (our God), מוֹדִ֥ים (thank) אֲנַ֖חְנוּ (we) לָ֑ךְ (You) וּֽמְהַֽלְלִ֖ים (and praise) לְשֵׁ֥ם (Your name) תִּפְאַרְתֶּֽךָ׃ (glorious). 14  וְכִ֨י (But) מִ֤י (who am) אֲנִי֙ (I), וּמִ֣י (and who are) עַמִּ֔י (my people), כִּֽי־ (that) נַעְצֹ֣ר (we should retain) כֹּ֔חַ (power) לְהִתְנַדֵּ֖ב (to offer freely) כָּזֹ֑את (like this)? כִּֽי־ (For) מִמְּךָ֣ (from You) הַכֹּ֔ל (are all things), וּמִיָּדְךָ֖ (and from Your hand) נָתַ֥נּוּ (we have given) לָֽךְ׃ (to You). 15  כִּֽי־ (For) גֵרִ֨ים (sojourners) אֲנַ֧חְנוּ (we are) לְפָנֶ֛יךָ (before You) וְתוֹשָׁבִ֖ים (and settlers), כְּכָל־ (like all) אֲבֹתֵ֑ינוּ (of our fathers). כַּצֵּ֧ל׀ (As a shadow) יָמֵ֛ינוּ (are our days) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the earth) וְאֵ֥ין (and without) מִקְוֶֽה׃ (hope).

16  יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ (our God), כֹ֣ל (all) הֶהָמ֤וֹן (abundance) הַזֶּה֙ (this) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) הֲכִינֹ֔נוּ (we have prepared) לִבְנֽוֹת־ (to build) לְךָ֥ (for You) בַ֖יִת (a house) לְשֵׁ֣ם (for Your name) קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ (holy), מִיָּדְךָ֥ (from Your hand) הִיא (is), וּלְךָ֥ (and unto You) הַכֹּֽל׃ (is all). 17  וְיָדַ֣עְתִּי (And I know), אֱלֹהַ֔י (my God), כִּ֤י (that) אַתָּה֙ (You) בֹּחֵ֣ן (examine) לֵבָ֔ב (the heart), וּמֵישָׁרִ֖ים (and in uprightness) תִּרְצֶ֑ה (You are pleased). אֲנִ֗י (I) בְּיֹ֤שֶׁר (in the uprightness) לְבָבִי֙ (of my heart) הִתְנַדַּ֣בְתִּי (I have offered freely) כָל־ (all) אֵ֔לֶּה (these things); וְעַתָּ֗ה (and now) עַמְּךָ֙ (Your people) הַנִּמְצְאוּ־ (found) פֹ֔ה (here), רָאִ֥יתִי (I have seen) בְשִׂמְחָ֖ה (with joy) לְהִֽתְנַדֶּב־ (to offer freely) לָֽךְ׃ (to You).

18  יְהוָ֗ה (O YHWH) אֱ֠לֹהֵי (God) אַבְרָהָ֞ם (of Abraham) יִצְחָ֤ק (and Isaac) וְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (and Israel) אֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ (our fathers), שֳׁמְרָה־ (keep) זֹּ֣את (this) לְעוֹלָ֔ם (forever) לְיֵ֥צֶר (in the intent) מַחְשְׁב֖וֹת (of the thoughts) לְבַ֣ב (of the heart) עַמֶּ֑ךָ (of Your people), וְהָכֵ֥ן (and fix) לְבָבָ֖ם (their heart) אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ (toward You). 19  וְלִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה (And to Solomon) בְנִ֗י (my son) תֵּ֚ן (give) לֵבָ֣ב (a heart) שָׁלֵ֔ם (perfect), לִשְׁמוֹר֙ (to keep) מִצְוֺתֶ֔יךָ (Your commandments), עֵדְוֺתֶ֖יךָ (Your testimonies), וְחֻקֶּ֑יךָ (and Your statutes), וְלַעֲשׂ֣וֹת (and to do) הַכֹּ֔ל (the whole) וְלִבְנ֖וֹת (even to build) הַבִּירָ֥ה (the palace) אֲשֶׁר־ (for which) הֲכִינֽוֹתִי׃פ (I have prepared).

20  וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) דָּוִיד֙ (David) לְכָל־ (to all) הַקָּהָ֔ל (the assembly), בָּֽרְכוּ־ (Bless) נָ֖א (now) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם (your⁺ God).

וַיְבָרֲכ֣וּ (And blessed) כָֽל־ (all) הַקָּהָ֗ל (the assembly) לַיהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) אֲבֹֽתֵיהֶ֔ם (of their fathers), וַיִּקְּד֧וּ (and they bowed down), וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֛וּ (and paid homage) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) וְלַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (and to the king).

Solomon Anointed King
(1 Kings 1:32–40)

21  וַיִּזְבְּח֣וּ (And they made) לַיהוָ֣ה׀ (to YHWH) זְ֠בָחִים (sacrifices) וַיַּעֲל֨וּ (and offered) עֹל֜וֹת (burnt offerings) לַיהוָ֗ה (to YHWH) לְֽמָחֳרַת֮ (on the next) הַיּ֣וֹם (day) הַהוּא֒ (that): פָּרִ֨ים (Bulls) אֶ֜לֶף (a thousand), אֵילִ֥ים (rams) אֶ֛לֶף (a thousand), כְּבָשִׂ֥ים (lambs) אֶ֖לֶף (a thousand), וְנִסְכֵּיהֶ֑ם (and with their drink offerings) וּזְבָחִ֥ים (and sacrifices) לָרֹ֖ב (in abundance) לְכָל־ (for all) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel). 22  וַיֹּאכְל֨וּ (And they ate) וַיִּשְׁתּ֜וּ (and drank) לִפְנֵ֧י (before the face of) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) בַּיּ֥וֹם (on day) הַה֖וּא (that) בְּשִׂמְחָ֣ה (with joy) גְדוֹלָ֑ה (great).

וַיַּמְלִ֤יכוּ (And they made king) שֵׁנִית֙ (a second time) לִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה (Solomon) בֶן־ (son) דָּוִ֔יד (of David), וַיִּמְשְׁח֧וּ (and they anointed him) לַיהוָ֛ה (before YHWH) לְנָגִ֥יד (for a leader), וּלְצָד֖וֹק (and Zadok) לְכֹהֵֽן׃ (for priest).

23  וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב (And sat) שְׁ֠לֹמֹה (Solomon) עַל־ (on) כִּסֵּ֨א (the throne) יְהוָ֧ה׀ (of YHWH) לְמֶ֛לֶךְ (as king) תַּֽחַת־ (instead) דָּוִ֥יד (of David) אָבִ֖יו (his father), וַיַּצְלַ֑ח (and he prospered). וַיִּשְׁמְע֥וּ (And listened) אֵלָ֖יו (to him) כָּל־ (all) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel). 24  וְכָל־ (And all) הַשָּׂרִים֙ (the leaders), וְהַגִּבֹּרִ֔ים (and the mighty men), וְגַ֕ם (and also) כָּל־ (all) בְּנֵ֖י (the sons) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (of King) דָּוִ֑יד (David) נָ֣תְנוּ (gave) יָ֔ד (a hand) תַּ֖חַת (under) שְׁלֹמֹ֥ה (Solomon) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (King).

25  וַיְגַדֵּ֨ל (And exalted) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) שְׁלֹמֹה֙ (Solomon) לְמַ֔עְלָה (exceedingly) לְעֵינֵ֖י (in the eyes) כָּל־ (of all) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel), וַיִּתֵּ֤ן (and He bestowed) עָלָיו֙ (on him) ה֣וֹד (majesty) מַלְכ֔וּת (royal) אֲ֠שֶׁר (as) לֹֽא־ (not) הָיָ֧ה (had been) עַל־ (on) כָּל־ (any) מֶ֛לֶךְ (king) לְפָנָ֖יו (before him) עַל־ (in) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ (Israel).

David’s Reign and Death
(1 Kings 2:10–12)

26  וְדָוִיד֙ (And David) בֶּן־ (son) יִשָׁ֔י (of Jesse) מָלַ֖ךְ (reigned) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel). 27  וְהַיָּמִ֗ים (And the days) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) מָלַךְ֙ (he reigned) עַל־ (over) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel) אַרְבָּעִ֖ים (were forty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years)— בְּחֶבְר֤וֹן (in Hebron) מָלַךְ֙ (he reigned) שֶׁ֣בַע (seven) שָׁנִ֔ים (years), וּבִירוּשָׁלִַ֥ם (and in Jerusalem) מָלַ֖ךְ (He reigned) שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים (thirty) וְשָׁלֽוֹשׁ׃ (and three). 28  וַיָּ֙מָת֙ (And he died) בְּשֵׂיבָ֣ה (in an old age) טוֹבָ֔ה (good), שְׂבַ֥ע (full) יָמִ֖ים (of days) עֹ֣שֶׁר (and riches) וְכָב֑וֹד (and honor). וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (And reigned) שְׁלֹמֹ֥ה (Solomon) בְנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ (in his place).

29  וְדִבְרֵי֙ (And the acts) דָּוִ֣יד (of David) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (the king), הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים (the first) וְהָאֲחרֹנִ֑ים (and the last), הִנָּ֣ם (indeed) כְּתוּבִ֗ים (they are written) עַל־ (in) דִּבְרֵי֙ (the words) שְׁמוּאֵ֣ל (of Samuel) הָרֹאֶ֔ה (the Seer) וְעַל־ (and in) דִּבְרֵי֙ (the words) נָתָ֣ן (of Nathan) הַנָּבִ֔יא (the Prophet), וְעַל־ (and in) דִּבְרֵ֖י (the words) גָּ֥ד (of Gad) הַחֹזֶֽה׃ (the Seer), 30  עִ֥ם (with) כָּל־ (all) מַלְכוּת֖וֹ (his reign), וּגְבוּרָת֑וֹ (and his might), וְהָעִתִּ֗ים (and the times) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) עָבְר֤וּ (happened) עָלָיו֙ (to him) וְעַל־ (and to) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel) וְעַ֖ל (and to) כָּל־ (all) מַמְלְכ֥וֹת (the kingdoms) הָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃פ (of the lands).
