Jesus Teaches at the Feast

1 Καὶ (And) μετὰ (after) ταῦτα (these things) περιεπάτει (was walking) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee)· οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) ἤθελεν (He was wanting) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea) περιπατεῖν (to walk), ὅτι (because) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill). 2 ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) ἐγγὺς (near) ἡ (the) ἑορτὴ (feast) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews) ἡ (the) σκηνοπηγία (Feast of Booths). 3 εἶπον (Said) οὖν (therefore) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him)· Μετάβηθι (Depart) ἐντεῦθεν (from here) καὶ (and) ὕπαγε (go) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Ἰουδαίαν (Judea), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) μαθηταί (disciples) σου (of You) θεωρήσουσιν (will see) σοῦ (of You) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) ἃ (that) ποιεῖς (You do)· 4 οὐδεὶς (No one) γάρ (for) τι (anything) ἐν (in) κρυπτῷ (secret) ποιεῖ (does) καὶ (and) ζητεῖ (seeks) αὐτὸς (himself) ἐν (in) παρρησίᾳ (public) εἶναι (to be). εἰ (If) ταῦτα (these things) ποιεῖς (You do), φανέρωσον (manifest) σεαυτὸν (Yourself) τῷ (to the) κόσμῳ (world). 5 οὐδὲ (Not even) γὰρ (for) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπίστευον (were believing) εἰς (in) αὐτόν (Him).

6 Λέγει (Says) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ὁ (The) καιρὸς (time) ὁ (-) ἐμὸς (of Me) οὔπω (not yet) πάρεστιν (is present), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) καιρὸς (the time) ὁ (-) ὑμέτερος (of you⁺) πάντοτέ (always) ἐστιν (is) ἕτοιμος (ready). 7 οὐ (Not) δύναται (is able) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) μισεῖν (to hate) ὑμᾶς (you⁺), ἐμὲ (Me) δὲ (however) μισεῖ (it hates), ὅτι (because) ἐγὼ (I) μαρτυρῶ (testify) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (it) ὅτι (that) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτοῦ (of it) πονηρά (evil) ἐστιν (are). 8 ὑμεῖς (You⁺) ἀνάβητε (go up) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἑορτήν (feast)· ἐγὼ (I) οὐκ (not) ἀναβαίνω (am going up) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἑορτὴν (feast) ταύτην (this), ὅτι (because) ὁ (-) ἐμὸς (My) καιρὸς (time) οὔπω (not yet) πεπλήρωται (has been fulfilled).

9 Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (and) εἰπὼν (having said) αὐτὸς (Himself) ἔμεινεν (He remained) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee). 10 Ὡς (When) δὲ (however) ἀνέβησαν (went up) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἑορτήν (feast), τότε (then) καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (He) ἀνέβη (went up), οὐ (not) φανερῶς (openly) ἀλλὰ (but) ὡς (as) ἐν (in) κρυπτῷ (secret).

11 Οἱ (The) οὖν (therefore) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἑορτῇ (feast) καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (were saying)· Ποῦ (Where) ἐστιν (is) ἐκεῖνος (that One)?

12 καὶ (And) γογγυσμὸς (murmuring) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἦν (there was) πολὺς (much) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ὄχλοις (crowds)· οἱ (Some) μὲν (indeed) ἔλεγον (were saying) ὅτι (-) Ἀγαθός (Good) ἐστιν (He is),

Ἄλλοι (Others) δὲ (however) ἔλεγον (were saying)· Οὔ (No), ἀλλὰ (but) πλανᾷ (He deceives) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd).

13 Οὐδεὶς (No one) μέντοι (however) παρρησίᾳ (publicly) ἐλάλει (was speaking) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) φόβον (fear) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews).

14 Ἤδη (Now) δὲ (also) τῆς (the) ἑορτῆς (feast) μεσούσης (being in the middle) ἀνέβη (went up) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple) καὶ (and) ἐδίδασκεν (was teaching). 15 ἐθαύμαζον (Were marveling) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) λέγοντες (saying)· Πῶς (How) οὗτος (this one) γράμματα (writings) οἶδεν (has known) μὴ (not) μεμαθηκώς (having learned)?

16 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) Ἡ (-)· Ἐμὴ (My) διδαχὴ (teaching) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐμὴ (of Me) ἀλλὰ (but) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me)· 17 ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) θέλῃ (should desire) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ποιεῖν (to do), γνώσεται (he will know) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) διδαχῆς (teaching), πότερον (whether) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (it is) ἢ (or) ἐγὼ (I) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself) λαλῶ (speak). 18 ὁ (The one) ἀφ’ (from) ἑαυτοῦ (himself) λαλῶν (speaking) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τὴν (his) ἰδίαν (own) ζητεῖ (seeks)· ὁ (the One) δὲ (however) ζητῶν (seeking) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντος (having sent) αὐτὸν (Him), οὗτος (He) ἀληθής (true) ἐστιν (is) καὶ (and) ἀδικία (unrighteousness) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is). 19 Οὐ (Not) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) δέδωκεν (has given) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) τὸν (the) νόμον (law)? καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (none) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you⁺) ποιεῖ (does) τὸν (the) νόμον (law). τί (Why) με (Me) ζητεῖτε (do you⁺ seek) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)?

20 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd)· Δαιμόνιον (A demon) ἔχεις (You have)· τίς (who) σε (You) ζητεῖ (seeks) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)?

21 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἓν (One) ἔργον (work) ἐποίησα (I did) καὶ (and) πάντες (all) θαυμάζετε (you⁺ marvel). 22 διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) δέδωκεν (has given) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) τὴν (-) περιτομήν (circumcision),—οὐχ (not) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Μωϋσέως (Moses) ἐστὶν (it is) ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) πατέρων (fathers),—καὶ (and) ἐν (on) σαββάτῳ (the Sabbath) περιτέμνετε (you⁺ circumcise) ἄνθρωπον (a man). 23 εἰ (If) περιτομὴν (circumcision) λαμβάνει (receives) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἐν (on) σαββάτῳ (the Sabbath) ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) λυθῇ (might be broken) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) Μωϋσέως (of Moses), ἐμοὶ (with Me) χολᾶτε (are you⁺ angry) ὅτι (because) ὅλον (whole) ἄνθρωπον (the man) ὑγιῆ (sound) ἐποίησα (I made) ἐν (on) σαββάτῳ (the Sabbath)? 24 μὴ (Not) κρίνετε (judge) κατ’ (according to) ὄψιν (appearance), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (the) δικαίαν (righteous) κρίσιν (judgment) κρίνετε (judge).

Is Jesus the Christ?

25 Ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) τινες (some) ἐκ (of) τῶν (those) Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν (of Jerusalem)· Οὐχ (Not) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is he) ὃν (whom) ζητοῦσιν (they seek) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)? 26 καὶ (And) ἴδε (behold) παρρησίᾳ (publicly) λαλεῖ (He speaks) καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (nothing) αὐτῷ (to Him) λέγουσιν (they say) Μή‿ (not) ποτε (ever). ἀληθῶς (Truly) ἔγνωσαν (knew) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) ὅτι (that) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ)? 27 ἀλλὰ (But) τοῦτον (this man) οἴδαμεν (we know) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (He is)· ὁ (The) δὲ (however) Χριστὸς (Christ) ὅταν (when) ἔρχηται (He may come), οὐδεὶς (no one) γινώσκει (knows) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (He is).

28 Ἔκραξεν (Cried out) οὖν (therefore) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) διδάσκων (teaching) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) λέγων (saying)· Κἀμὲ (Me) οἴδατε (you⁺ know) καὶ (and) οἴδατε (you⁺ know) πόθεν (from where) εἰμί (I am)· καὶ (and) ἀπ’ (of) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself) οὐκ (not) ἐλήλυθα (I have come), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔστιν (is) ἀληθινὸς (true) ὁ (the One) πέμψας (having sent) με (Me), ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know)· 29 ἐγὼ (I) οἶδα (know) αὐτόν (Him), ὅτι (because) παρ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him) εἰμι (I am) κἀκεῖνός (and He) με (Me) ἀπέστειλεν (sent).

30 Ἐζήτουν (They were seeking) οὖν (therefore) αὐτὸν (Him) πιάσαι (to seize), καὶ (but) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἐπέβαλεν (laid) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτὸν (Him) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand), ὅτι (because) οὔπω (not yet) ἐληλύθει (had come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 31 Ἐκ (Out of) τοῦ (the) ὄχλου (crowd) δὲ (however) πολλοὶ (many) ἐπίστευσαν (believed) εἰς (in) αὐτόν (Him), καὶ (and) ἔλεγον (were saying)· Ὁ (The) Χριστὸς (Christ) ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (He shall come), μὴ (not) πλείονα (more) σημεῖα (signs) ποιήσει (will He do) ὧν (than) οὗτος (this man) ἐποίησεν (did)?

32 Ἤκουσαν (Heard) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) τοῦ (the) ὄχλου (crowd) γογγύζοντος (murmuring) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him) ταῦτα (these things), καὶ (and) ἀπέστειλαν (sent) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees) ὑπηρέτας (officers) ἵνα (so that) πιάσωσιν (they might seize) αὐτόν (Him). 33 εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ἔτι (Yet) χρόνον (time) μικρὸν (a little) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you⁺) εἰμι (I am) καὶ (and) ὑπάγω (I go) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the One) πέμψαντά (having sent) με (Me). 34 ζητήσετέ (You⁺ will seek) με (Me) καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὑρήσετέ (will find) με (Me), καὶ (and) ὅπου (where) εἰμὶ (am) ἐγὼ (I) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come).

35 Εἶπον (Said) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) πρὸς (among) ἑαυτούς (themselves)· Ποῦ (Where) οὗτος (He) μέλλει (is about) πορεύεσθαι (to go), ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) οὐχ (not) εὑρήσομεν (will find) αὐτόν (Him)? μὴ (Not) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) Διασπορὰν (Diaspora) τῶν (among the) Ἑλλήνων (Greeks) μέλλει (is He about) πορεύεσθαι (to go) καὶ (and) διδάσκειν (to teach) τοὺς (the) Ἕλληνας (Greeks)? 36 τίς (What) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) οὗτος (this) ὃν (that) εἶπεν (He said)· Ζητήσετέ (You⁺ will seek) με (Me) καὶ (and) οὐχ (not) εὑρήσετέ (will find) με (Me), καὶ (and)· Ὅπου (Where) εἰμὶ (am) ἐγὼ (I) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (are able) ἐλθεῖν (to come)?

37 Ἐν (In) δὲ (now) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (the) μεγάλῃ (great day) τῆς (of the) ἑορτῆς (feast) εἱστήκει (stood) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἔκραξεν (cried out) λέγων (saying)· Ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) διψᾷ (may thirst), ἐρχέσθω (let him come) πρός (to) με (Me) καὶ (and) πινέτω (drink). 38 ὁ (The one) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me), καθὼς (as) εἶπεν (said) ἡ (the) γραφή (Scripture), Ποταμοὶ (Rivers) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) κοιλίας (belly) αὐτοῦ (of him) ῥεύσουσιν (will flow) ὕδατος (of water) ζῶντος (living). 39 τοῦτο (This) δὲ (now) εἶπεν (He said) περὶ (about) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) οὗ (whom) ἔμελλον (were about) λαμβάνειν (to receive) οἱ (those) πιστεύσαντες (having believed) εἰς (in) αὐτόν (Him)· οὔπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ἦν (was) Πνεῦμα (the Spirit), ὅτι (because) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὐδέπω (not yet) ἐδοξάσθη (was glorified).

43 Σχίσμα (A division) οὖν (therefore) ἐγένετο (happened) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὄχλῳ (crowd) δι’ (because of) αὐτόν (Him)· 44 τινὲς (Some) δὲ (now) ἤθελον (were wanting) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) πιάσαι (to seize) αὐτόν (Him), ἀλλ’ (but) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἐπέβαλεν (laid) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτὸν (Him) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands).

52 Ἀπεκρίθησαν (They answered) καὶ (and) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to him)· Μὴ (Not) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) εἶ (are)? ἐραύνησον (Search) καὶ (and) ἴδε (see) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) προφήτης (a prophet) οὐκ (not) ἐγείρεται (is raised).

53 Καὶ (And) ἐπορεύθησαν (went) ἕκαστος (each) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (home) αὐτοῦ (of him).
