How long must I see the signal flag

Jeremiah grieves over the unending signs of war approaching Judah. The raised flag announces the advance and gathering of enemy forces, pointing to the Babylonian invasion God had declared because of Judah’s rebellion.

(21) How long shall I see . . .--The "standard," as in Jeremiah 4:6, is the alarm signal given to the fugitives. The "trumpet" sounds to give the alarm, and quicken their flight to the defenced city. The prophet sees no end to the miseries of the coming war.

Verse 21. - Shall I see the standard. (See on ver. 6.)

Jeremiah 4:21 captures the prophet’s weary anguish: unrelenting signals—flags in sight, horns in ear—declare judgment because Judah will not repent. God’s patience is underscored by continuous warnings, yet judgment remains literal and imminent.
