Now about the collection for the saints, you are to do as I directed the churches of Galatia:1Now concerning the collection for the saints, you should follow the directions I gave to the churches in Galatia.
On the first day of every week, each of you should set aside a portion of his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will be needed.2After the Sabbath ends, each of you should set aside and save something from your surplus in proportion to what you have, so that no collections will have to be made when I arrive.
Then, on my arrival, I will send letters with those you recommend to carry your gift to Jerusalem.3When I arrive, I will send letters along with the men you approve to take your gift to Jerusalem.
And if it is advisable for me to go also, they can travel with me.4If it is worthwhile for me to go, too, they can go with me.
After I go through Macedonia, however, I will come to you; for I will be going through Macedonia.5I will visit you when I go through Macedonia—for I intend to go through Macedonia—
Perhaps I will stay with you awhile, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go.6and will probably stay with you for a while or even spend the winter with you. Then you can send me on my way, wherever I decide to go.
For I do not want to see you now only in passing; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.7I do not want to visit with you now just in passing, because I hope to spend a longer time with you if the Lord permits.
But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost,8However, I'll stay on in Ephesus until Pentecost,
because a great door for effective work has opened to me, even though many oppose me.9because a door has opened wide for me to do effective work, although many people are opposing me.
If Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, just as I am.10If Timothy comes, see to it that he does not have anything to be afraid of while he is with you, for he is doing the Lord's work as I am.
No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he can return to me, for I am expecting him along with the brothers.11Therefore, no one should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he may come to me, because I am expecting him along with the brothers.
Now about our brother Apollos: I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was not at all inclined to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity.12Now concerning our brother Apollos, I strongly urged him to visit you with the other brothers, but he was not inclined to do so just now. However, he will visit you when the time is right.
Be on the alert. Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.13Remain alert. Keep standing firm in your faith. Keep on being courageous and strong.
Do everything in love.14Everything you do should be done lovingly.
You know that Stephanas and his household were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. Now I urge you, brothers,15Now I urge you, brothers—for you know that the members of the family of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to serving the saints—
to submit to such as these, and to every fellow worker and laborer.16to submit yourselves to people like these and to anyone else who shares their labor and hard work.
I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you.17I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus came here, because what was lacking they have supplied through you.
For they refreshed my spirit and yours as well. Show your appreciation, therefore, to such men.18They refreshed my spirit—and yours, too. Therefore, appreciate men like that.
The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Prisca greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house.19The churches in Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca and the church in their house greet you warmly in union with the Lord.
All the brothers here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.20All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
This greeting is in my own hand—Paul.21I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand.
If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be under a curse. Come, O Lord!22If anyone doesn't love the Lord, let him be condemned! May our Lord come!
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.23May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you!
My love be with all of you in Christ Jesus. Amen.24May my love remain with all of you in union with the Messiah Jesus.
