Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me.1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me.
I sought the Lord in my day of trouble. My hands were continually lifted up all night long; I refused to be comforted.2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted.
I think of God; I groan; I meditate; my spirit becomes weak. Selah3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah)
You have kept me from closing my eyes; I am troubled and cannot speak.4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak.
I consider days of old, years long past.5I thought about the days of old, about ancient times.
At night I remember my music; I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders.6I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening.
"Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor?7I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor?
Has his faithful love ceased forever? Is his promise at an end for all generations?8Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever?
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" Selah9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?"
So I say, "I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed."10Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive.
I will remember the LORD's works; yes, I will remember your ancient wonders.11I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago!
I will reflect on all you have done and meditate on your actions.12I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!"
God, your way is holy. What god is great like God?13O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God?
You are the God who works wonders; you revealed your strength among the peoples.14You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations.
With power you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah15You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah)
The water saw you, God. The water saw you; it trembled. Even the depths shook.16The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear.
The clouds poured down water. The storm clouds thundered; your arrows flashed back and forth.17The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about.
The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind; lightning lit up the world. The earth shook and quaked.18Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.
Your way went through the sea and your path through the vast water, but your footprints were unseen.19You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints.
You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
