Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand.1Once again Jesus entered the synagogue, and a man with a withered hand was there.
And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.2In order to accuse Jesus, they were watching to see if He would heal on the Sabbath.
And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.”3Then Jesus said to the man with the withered hand, “Stand up among us.”
And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.4And He asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” But they were silent.
And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.5Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored.
The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.6At this, the Pharisees went out and began plotting with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea7So Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from Galilee, Judea,
and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him.8Jerusalem, Idumea, the region beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him when they heard what great things He was doing.
And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him,9Jesus asked His disciples to have a boat ready for Him so that the crowd would not crush Him.
for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him.10For He had healed so many that all who had diseases were pressing forward to touch Him.
And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”11And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!”
And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.12But He warned them sternly not to make Him known.
And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him.13Then Jesus went up on the mountain and called for those He wanted, and they came to Him.
And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach14He appointed twelve of them, whom He designated as apostles, to accompany Him, to be sent out to preach,
and have authority to cast out demons.15and to have authority to drive out demons.
He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter);16These are the twelve He appointed: Simon (whom He named Peter),
James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder);17James son of Zebedee and his brother John (whom He named Boanerges, meaning “Sons of Thunder”),
Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,18Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,
and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.19and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.
Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat.20Then Jesus went home, and once again a crowd gathered, so that He and His disciples could not even eat.
And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”21When His family heard about this, they went out to take custody of Him, saying, “He is out of His mind.”
And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.”22And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”
And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan?23So Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.24If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand.
And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.25If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.
And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end.26And if Satan is divided and rises against himself, he cannot stand; his end has come.
But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.27Indeed, no one can enter a strong man’s house to steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.
“Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter,28Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be forgiven all sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter.
but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”—29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin.”
for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”30Jesus made this statement because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.31Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to summon Him,
And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.”32and a crowd was sitting around Him. “Look,” He was told, “Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You.”
And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”33But Jesus replied, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”
And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!34Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”35For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”
