Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
The LORD spoke to Moses: "1The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When someone makes a special vow to the LORD that involves the assessment of people, 2“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, If anyone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the valuation of persons,
if the assessment concerns a male from 20 to 60 years old, your assessment is 50 silver shekels measured by the standard sanctuary shekel.3then the valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.
If the person is a female, your assessment is 30 shekels.4If the person is a female, the valuation shall be thirty shekels.
If the person is from five to 20 years old, your assessment for a male is 20 shekels and for a female 10 shekels. 5If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, the valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels.
If the person is from one month to five years old, your assessment for a male is five silver shekels, and for a female your assessment is three shekels of silver. 6If the person is from a month old up to five years old, the valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female the valuation shall be three shekels of silver.
If the person is 60 years or more, your assessment is 15 shekels for a male and 10 shekels for a female. 7And if the person is sixty years old or over, then the valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels.
But if one is too poor to pay the assessment, he must present the person before the priest and the priest will set a value for him. The priest will set a value for him according to what the one making the vow can afford." 8And if someone is too poor to pay the valuation, then he shall be made to stand before the priest, and the priest shall value him; the priest shall value him according to what the vower can afford.
If the vow involves one of the animals that may be brought as an offering to the LORD, any of these he gives to the LORD will be holy. 9“If the vow is an animal that may be offered as an offering to the LORD, all of it that he gives to the LORD is holy.
He may not replace it or make a substitution for it, either good for bad, or bad for good. But if he does substitute one animal for another, both that animal and its substitute will be holy." 10He shall not exchange it or make a substitute for it, good for bad, or bad for good; and if he does in fact substitute one animal for another, then both it and the substitute shall be holy.
If the vow involves any of the unclean animals that may not be brought as an offering to the LORD, the animal must be presented before the priest. 11And if it is any unclean animal that may not be offered as an offering to the LORD, then he shall stand the animal before the priest,
The priest will set its value, whether high or low; the price will be set as the priest makes the assessment for you. 12and the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall be.
If the one who brought it decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value." 13But if he wishes to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation.
When a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, the priest will assess its value, whether high or low. The price will stand just as the priest assesses it. 14“When a man dedicates his house as a holy gift to the LORD, the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand.
But if the one who consecrated his house redeems it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it will be his." 15And if the donor wishes to redeem his house, he shall add a fifth to the valuation price, and it shall be his.
If a man consecrates to the LORD any part of a field that he possesses, your assessment of value will be proportional to the seed needed to sow it, at the rate of 50 silver shekels for every five bushels of barley seed.16“If a man dedicates to the LORD part of the land that is his possession, then the valuation shall be in proportion to its seed. A homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your assessment. 17If he dedicates his field from the year of jubilee, the valuation shall stand,
But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest will calculate the price for him in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your assessment will be reduced. 18but if he dedicates his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall calculate the price according to the years that remain until the year of jubilee, and a deduction shall be made from the valuation.
If the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and the field will transfer back to him. 19And if he who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, then he shall add a fifth to its valuation price, and it shall remain his.
But if he does not redeem the field or if he has sold it to another man, it is no longer redeemable. 20But if he does not wish to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore.
When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will be holy to the LORD like a field permanently set apart; it becomes the priest's property." 21But the field, when it is released in the jubilee, shall be a holy gift to the LORD, like a field that has been devoted. The priest shall be in possession of it.
If a person consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased that is not part of his inherited landholding, 22If he dedicates to the LORD a field that he has bought, which is not a part of his possession,
then the priest will calculate for him the amount of the assessment up to the Year of Jubilee, and the person will pay the assessed value on that day as a holy offering to the LORD.23then the priest shall calculate the amount of the valuation for it up to the year of jubilee, and the man shall give the valuation on that day as a holy gift to the LORD.
In the Year of Jubilee the field will return to the one he bought it from, the original owner.24In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to whom the land belongs as a possession.
All your assessed values will be measured by the standard sanctuary shekel, 20 gerahs to the shekel." 25Every valuation shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall make a shekel.
But no one can consecrate a firstborn of the livestock, whether an animal from the herd or flock, to the LORD, because a firstborn already belongs to the LORD.26“But a firstborn of animals, which as a firstborn belongs to the LORD, no man may dedicate; whether ox or sheep, it is the LORD’s.
If it is one of the unclean livestock, it must be ransomed according to your assessment by adding a fifth of its value to it. If it is not redeemed, it can be sold according to your assessment." 27And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back at the valuation, and add a fifth to it; or, if it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at the valuation.
Nothing that a man permanently sets apart to the LORD from all he owns, whether a person, an animal, or his inherited landholding, can be sold or redeemed; everything set apart is especially holy to the LORD.28“But no devoted thing that a man devotes to the LORD, of anything that he has, whether man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD.
No person who has been set apart for destruction is to be ransomed; he must be put to death." 29No one devoted, who is to be devoted for destruction from mankind, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death.
Every tenth of the land's produce, grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.30“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the LORD’s; it is holy to the LORD.
If a man decides to redeem any part of this tenth, he must add a fifth to its value. 31If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it.
Every tenth animal from the herd or flock, which passes under the shepherd's rod, will be holy to the LORD.32And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman’s staff, shall be holy to the LORD.
He is not to inspect whether it is good or bad, and he is not to make a substitution for it. But if he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute will be holy; they cannot be redeemed." 33One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”
These are the commands the LORD gave Moses for the Israelites on Mount Sinai. 34These are the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai.
