The LORD spoke to Moses: "1The LORD spoke to Moses:
Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When someone makes a special vow to the LORD that involves the assessment of people, 2"Speak to the Israelites and tell them, 'When a man makes a special votive offering based on the conversion value of persons to the LORD,
if the assessment concerns a male from 20 to 60 years old, your assessment is 50 silver shekels measured by the standard sanctuary shekel.3the conversion value of the male from twenty years old up to sixty years old is fifty shekels by the standard of the sanctuary shekel.
If the person is a female, your assessment is 30 shekels.4If the person is a female, the conversion value is thirty shekels.
If the person is from five to 20 years old, your assessment for a male is 20 shekels and for a female 10 shekels. 5If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, the conversion value of the male is twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
If the person is from one month to five years old, your assessment for a male is five silver shekels, and for a female your assessment is three shekels of silver. 6If the person is one month old up to five years old, the conversion value of the male is five shekels of silver, and for the female the conversion value is three shekels of silver.
If the person is 60 years or more, your assessment is 15 shekels for a male and 10 shekels for a female. 7If the person is from sixty years old and older, if he is a male the conversion value is fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
But if one is too poor to pay the assessment, he must present the person before the priest and the priest will set a value for him. The priest will set a value for him according to what the one making the vow can afford." 8If he is too poor to pay the conversion value, he must stand the person before the priest and the priest will establish his conversion value; according to what the man who made the vow can afford, the priest will establish his conversion value.
If the vow involves one of the animals that may be brought as an offering to the LORD, any of these he gives to the LORD will be holy. 9"'If what is vowed is a kind of animal from which an offering may be presented to the LORD, anything which he gives to the LORD from this kind of animal will be holy.
He may not replace it or make a substitution for it, either good for bad, or bad for good. But if he does substitute one animal for another, both that animal and its substitute will be holy." 10He must not replace or exchange it, good for bad or bad for good, and if he does indeed exchange one animal for another animal, then both the original animal and its substitute will be holy.
If the vow involves any of the unclean animals that may not be brought as an offering to the LORD, the animal must be presented before the priest. 11If what is vowed is an unclean animal from which an offering must not be presented to the LORD, then he must stand the animal before the priest,
The priest will set its value, whether high or low; the price will be set as the priest makes the assessment for you. 12and the priest will establish its conversion value, whether good or bad. According to the assessed conversion value of the priest, thus it will be.
If the one who brought it decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value." 13If, however, the person who made the vow redeems the animal, he must add one fifth to its conversion value.
When a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, the priest will assess its value, whether high or low. The price will stand just as the priest assesses it. 14"'If a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, the priest will establish its conversion value, whether good or bad. Just as the priest establishes its conversion value, thus it will stand.
But if the one who consecrated his house redeems it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it will be his." 15If the one who consecrates it redeems his house, he must add to it one fifth of its conversion value in silver, and it will belong to him.
If a man consecrates to the LORD any part of a field that he possesses, your assessment of value will be proportional to the seed needed to sow it, at the rate of 50 silver shekels for every five bushels of barley seed.16"'If a man consecrates to the LORD some of his own landed property, the conversion value must be calculated in accordance with the amount of seed needed to sow it, a homer of barley seed being priced at fifty shekels of silver.
If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your assessment. 17If he consecrates his field in the jubilee year, the conversion value will stand,
But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest will calculate the price for him in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your assessment will be reduced. 18but if he consecrates his field after the jubilee, the priest will calculate the price for him according to the years that are left until the next jubilee year, and it will be deducted from the conversion value.
If the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and the field will transfer back to him. 19If, however, the one who consecrated the field redeems it, he must add to it one fifth of the conversion price and it will belong to him.
But if he does not redeem the field or if he has sold it to another man, it is no longer redeemable. 20If he does not redeem the field, but sells the field to someone else, he may never redeem it.
When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will be holy to the LORD like a field permanently set apart; it becomes the priest's property." 21When it reverts in the jubilee, the field will be holy to the LORD like a permanently dedicated field; it will become the priest's property.
If a person consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased that is not part of his inherited landholding, 22"'If he consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased, which is not part of his own landed property,
then the priest will calculate for him the amount of the assessment up to the Year of Jubilee, and the person will pay the assessed value on that day as a holy offering to the LORD.23the priest will calculate for him the amount of its conversion value until the jubilee year, and he must pay the conversion value on that jubilee day as something that is holy to the LORD.
In the Year of Jubilee the field will return to the one he bought it from, the original owner.24In the jubilee year the field will return to the one from whom he bought it, the one to whom it belongs as landed property.
All your assessed values will be measured by the standard sanctuary shekel, 20 gerahs to the shekel." 25Every conversion value must be calculated by the standard of the sanctuary shekel; twenty gerahs to the shekel.
But no one can consecrate a firstborn of the livestock, whether an animal from the herd or flock, to the LORD, because a firstborn already belongs to the LORD.26"'Surely no man may consecrate a firstborn that already belongs to the LORD as a firstborn among the animals; whether it is an ox or a sheep, it belongs to the LORD.
If it is one of the unclean livestock, it must be ransomed according to your assessment by adding a fifth of its value to it. If it is not redeemed, it can be sold according to your assessment." 27If, however, it is among the unclean animals, he may ransom it according to its conversion value and must add one fifth to it, but if it is not redeemed it must be sold according to its conversion value.
Nothing that a man permanently sets apart to the LORD from all he owns, whether a person, an animal, or his inherited landholding, can be sold or redeemed; everything set apart is especially holy to the LORD.28"'Surely anything which a man permanently dedicates to the LORD from all that belongs to him, whether from people, animals, or his landed property, must be neither sold nor redeemed; anything permanently dedicated is most holy to the LORD.
No person who has been set apart for destruction is to be ransomed; he must be put to death." 29Any human being who is permanently dedicated must not be ransomed; such a person must be put to death.
Every tenth of the land's produce, grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.30"'Any tithe of the land, from the grain of the land or from the fruit of the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
If a man decides to redeem any part of this tenth, he must add a fifth to its value. 31If a man redeems part of his tithe, however, he must add one fifth to it.
Every tenth animal from the herd or flock, which passes under the shepherd's rod, will be holy to the LORD.32All the tithe of herd or flock, everything which passes under the rod, the tenth one will be holy to the LORD.
He is not to inspect whether it is good or bad, and he is not to make a substitution for it. But if he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute will be holy; they cannot be redeemed." 33The owner must not examine the animals to distinguish between good and bad, and he must not exchange it. If, however, he does exchange it, both the original animal and its substitute will be holy. It must not be redeemed.'"
These are the commands the LORD gave Moses for the Israelites on Mount Sinai. 34These are the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses to tell the Israelites at Mount Sinai.
