Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so they could go and anoint Him. 1When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.
Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb at sunrise. 2And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.
They were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?"3And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
Looking up, they observed that the stone--which was very large--had been rolled away. 4And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large.
When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; they were amazed and alarmed." 5And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed.
Don't be alarmed," he told them. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has been resurrected! He is not here! See the place where they put Him. 6And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
But go, tell His disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there just as He told you.'" 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”
So they went out and started running from the tomb, because trembling and astonishment overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone, since they were afraid. 8And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Early on the first day of the week, after He had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had driven seven demons.9[[Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons.
She went and reported to those who had been with Him, as they were mourning and weeping. 10She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
Yet, when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe it.11But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.
Then after this, He appeared in a different form to two of them walking on their way into the country.12After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country.
And they went and reported it to the rest, who did not believe them either. 13And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
Later, He appeared to the Eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw Him after He had been resurrected.14Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.
Then He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.15And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
they will pick up snakes; if they should drink anything deadly, it will never harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well." 18they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Then after speaking to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 19So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the accompanying signs. 20And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.]]
