Now He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a paralyzed hand. 1Jesus went into the synagogue again, and a man with a paralyzed hand was there.
In order to accuse Him, they were watching Him closely to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath.2The people watched Jesus closely to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, intending to accuse him of doing something wrong.
He told the man with the paralyzed hand, "Stand before us."3He told the man with the paralyzed hand, "Come forward."
Then He said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent.4Then he asked them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do evil on Sabbath days, to save a life or to destroy it?" But they remained silent.
After looking around at them with anger and sorrow at the hardness of their hearts, He told the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.5Jesus looked around at them in anger, deeply hurt because of their hard hearts. Then he told the man, "Hold out your hand." The man held it out, and his hand was restored to health.
Immediately the Pharisees went out and started plotting with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him. 6Immediately the Pharisees and Herodians went out and began to plot how to kill him.
Jesus departed with His disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee, Judea,7So Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea. A large crowd from Galilee, Judea,
Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and around Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him because they heard about everything He was doing. 8Jerusalem, Idumea, from across the Jordan, and from the region around Tyre and Sidon followed him. They came to him because they kept hearing about everything he was doing.
Then He told His disciples to have a small boat ready for Him, so the crowd would not crush Him. 9Jesus told his disciples to have a boat ready for him so that the crowd wouldn't crush him,
Since He had healed many, all who had diseases were pressing toward Him to touch Him. 10because he had healed so many people that everyone who had diseases kept crowding up against him in order to touch him.
Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, those possessed fell down before Him and cried out, "You are the Son of God!"11Whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they would fall down in front of him and scream, "You are the Son of God!"
And He would strongly warn them not to make Him known. 12But he sternly ordered them again and again not to tell people who he was.
Then He went up the mountain and summoned those He wanted, and they came to Him. 13Then Jesus went up on a hillside and called to himself those whom he had decided on, and they approached him.
He also appointed 12--He also named them apostles--to be with Him, to send them out to preach,14He appointed the Twelve, whom he called apostles, to accompany him, to be sent out to preach,
and to have authority to drive out demons. 15and to have the authority to drive out demons.
He appointed the Twelve: To Simon, He gave the name Peter; 16He appointed the Twelve: Simon (whom he named Peter),
and to James the son of Zebedee, and to his brother John, He gave the name "Boanerges" (that is, "Sons of Thunder"); 17Zebedee's sons James and his brother John (whom he named Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder),
Andrew; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, 18Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus, Simon the Cananaean,
and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. 19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
Then He went home, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat.20Then he went home. Such a large crowd gathered again that Jesus and his disciples couldn't even eat.
When His family heard this, they set out to restrain Him, because they said, "He's out of His mind." 21When his family heard about it, they went to restrain him, because they kept saying, "He's out of his mind!"
The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebul in Him!" and, "He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons!" 22The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem kept repeating, "He has Beelzebul," and, "He drives out demons by the ruler of demons."
So He summoned them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan?23So Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables. "How can Satan drive out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 25And if a household is divided against itself, that household won't stand.
And if Satan rebels against himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished! 26So if Satan rebels against himself and is divided, he cannot stand. Indeed, his end has come.
"On the other hand, no one can enter a strong man's house and rob his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he will rob his house. 27No one can go into a strong man's house and carry off his possessions without first tying up the strong man. Then he can ransack his house.
I assure you: People will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies they may blaspheme. 28I tell all of you with certainty, people will be forgiven their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter.
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" --29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never be forgiven, but is guilty of eternal sin."
because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." 30…because they had been saying, "He has an unclean spirit."
Then His mother and His brothers came, and standing outside, they sent word to Him and called Him. 31Then his mother and his brothers arrived. Milling around outside, they sent for him, continuously summoning him.
A crowd was sitting around Him and told Him, "Look, Your mother, Your brothers, and Your sisters are outside asking for You." 32A crowd was sitting around him. They told him, "Look! Your mother and your brothers are outside asking for you."
He replied to them, "Who are My mother and My brothers?"33He answered them, "Who are my mother and my brothers?"
And looking about at those who were sitting in a circle around Him, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!34Then looking at the people sitting around him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers!
Whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother." 35Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."
