This message came from the LORD to Jeremiah: 1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
"This is what the LORD God of Israel says: 'Write all the words that I've spoken to you in a book. 2“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.
Indeed, the time will come,' declares the LORD, 'when I'll restore the security of my people Israel and Judah,' says the LORD. 'I'll bring them back to the land that I gave to their ancestors, and they'll possess it.'"3For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore from captivity My people Israel and Judah, declares the LORD. I will restore them to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’ ”
These are the words that the LORD spoke about Israel and Judah:4These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
"Indeed, this is what the LORD says: 'We have heard a sound of terror and of fear, and there is no peace.5Yes, this is what the LORD says: “A cry of panic is heard—a cry of terror, not of peace.
Ask about this and think about it— Can a man give birth to a child? Why then do I see every strong man with his hands on his thighs like a woman giving birth, and all their faces have turned pale?6Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
Oh how terrible! That time will be worse than any like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be rescued from it.7How awful that day will be! None will be like it! It is the time of Jacob’s distress, but he will be saved out of it.
On that day,' declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, 'I'll break the yoke from your neck and will tear off your restraints. Foreigners will no longer make you serve them. 8On that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will break the yoke off their necks and tear off their bonds, and no longer will strangers enslave them.
Rather, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.9Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
My servant Jacob, don't be afraid,' declares the LORD, 'and Israel, don't be dismayed. For I'll deliver you from a distant place and your descendants from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return. He will be undisturbed and secure, and no one will cause him to fear.10As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
For I'll be with you to save you,' declares the LORD. 'For I'll put an end to all the nations where I scattered you; but I won't make an end of you. I'll discipline you justly, but I certainly won't leave you unpunished.'11For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
"For this is what the LORD says: 'Your injury won't heal; your wound is severe.12For this is what the LORD says: “Your injury is incurable; your wound is grievous.
There is no one to plead your cause. There is no medicine for your sore; no healing for you.13There is no one to plead your cause, no remedy for your sores, no recovery for you.
All your lovers have forgotten you; they don't seek you. Indeed, I've struck you down with the blow of an enemy, with the punishment of a cruel foe because your wickedness is great, and your sins are numerous.14All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer seek you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline of someone cruel, because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins.
Why do you cry out because of your injury? Your wound won't heal. Because your wickedness is severe, and your sins are numerous, I've done all these things to you.15Why do you cry out over your wound? Your pain has no cure! Because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins I have done these things to you.
In addition, all who devour you will be devoured, and all your oppressors—all of them— will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will become plunder, and all who spoil you will become spoil.16Nevertheless, all who devour you will be devoured, and all your adversaries—every one of them—will go off into exile. Those who plundered you will be plundered, and all who raided you will be raided.
Indeed, I'll bring you healing, and I'll heal you of your wounds,' declares the LORD, 'because they have called you an outcast and have said, "It is Zion, no one cares for her!"'" 17But I will restore your health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD, because they call you an outcast, Zion, for whom no one cares.”
"This is what the LORD says: 'I'm going to restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings. A city will be rebuilt on its ruins and a palace will sit on its rightful place.18This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and the palace will stand in its rightful place.
Thanksgiving and the sounds of laughter will come out of them. I'll cause them to increase in numbers and not decrease. I'll honor them and not make them insignificant.19Thanksgiving will proceed from them, a sound of celebration. I will multiply them, and they will not be decreased; I will honor them, and they will not be belittled.
Their children will be as they were before, and their congregation will be established before me. I'll punish all who oppress them.20Their children will be as in days of old, and their congregation will be established before Me; and I will punish all their oppressors.
Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will come from among them. I'll bring him near, and he will approach me, for who would otherwise dare to approach me?' declares the LORD.21Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will arise from their midst. And I will bring him near, and he will approach Me, for who would dare on his own to approach Me?” declares the LORD.
You will be my people, and I'll be your God.'"22“And you will be My people, and I will be your God.”
Look, the storm of the LORD! His wrath has gone forth, a twisting storm. It will swirl around the head of the wicked.23Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone out with fury, a whirlwind swirling down upon the heads of the wicked.
The fierce anger of the LORD won't turn back until he has accomplished and established the plan of his heart. In the days to come, you will understand this.24The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this.
